The next time someone badmouths Twitter...

Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing, actually.

Wouldn't surprise me.... i'm downtown too and the wind has really started to pickup in the last hour. I can only imagine what it was like in NYC today.

Jail official says no major flooding at Rikers Island, reports @ReuvenBlau http://bit.ly/SkKyvM #Sandy
Totally hadn't thought of this scenario. Where would they evacuate 14,000 inmates if there was life-threatening flooding?

Looks like a typical grainy high ISO pic taken among street lights.

I'll bet on it being real.

I just hope someone reminds this guy of this post....

I don't like that the Weather Channel is calling it "Superstorm Sandy." It sounds like a wrestler.

The wind was rocking hard here last night. Branches all over, but nothing serious.
Clouds look a little weird this morning, and the air is as fresh as it gets.

yes, because hurricanes are rare along the east coast of NA....granted that this one was a large one, but you know what? there have been really really big ones before, and lots of them happened long before the combustion engine. This season was one of the weakest for hurricanes ever recorded (as far as landfall)...which simply doesnt jive with the man made theory. Its all very cyclical.

I have little doubt that there are contributions to the severity in certain situations that are man made, but its to be seen just how much those contributions are...the earth is a pretty resilient planet that has seen multiple climate changes over its history and we could merely be seeing part of another one regardless of humans doing whatever we do.

All that being said...this was one brute of a storm that has rarely been seen in the last couple hundred years in the northern hemisphere, and the late formation makes it even more unique. Add to that where it landed (most populated area in the USA) and the timing with the tidal cycles, and we see what will probably be the single largest natural disater ever recorded in NA.

Mother nature is a bitch.
