Whoa now, I never made that argument for anything, so don't claim that I have. All I've said in this thread is that I agree the age of consent is an arbitrary issue, though this particular case is less arbitrary because of the fact the girl was under-age (in the eyes of the law, which is what matters in this particular situation), and the offending man is a police officer. My answer to you when you asked if she was a child was just that . . . an answer. It wasn't a statement on what the age of consent should or should not be.

I agree, but the ability to make some decisions was not what I was talking about.
People can legally have sex from 14 years of age or older, With some restrictions on the partner. Claiming that it somehow impairs their learning and experience is a rather odd claim, given the thread

Children are often easily manipulated by those that are older. The reason 16 year olds can't consent to adults is the same reason younger children can't consent to adults. It is different for people of the same age, that obvious power dynamic is absent with two 16 year olds.
