But then you have let 5 degree warmer air into the house. Nope, windows only open when outside real temp is lower than inside.

That’s when you use the fan to create that cooling air flow instead

I have never exceeded my 'Thanks Limit' until today.
Thank Jobu. That was too damned close.

I’m doing that right now and it’s still 27 degrees in my living room.
Not only that, but this country has never heard of screen doors, which RGMG.

About 30% of the reason I got married to someone thoughtful was so I would be off the hook from the obnoxious duty of buying gifts for weddings, birthdays, christmas, and in this case, teachers at the end of year… so when my wife calls me to consult on whether we should get this or that and insists on my constructive feedback, I just about lose my marbles.

Class gifts are the best... Inevitably, there's some keener parent that will take it upon themselves to be the organizer, everyone sends them $40 (or whatever) and that one parent is on the hook for buying gifts, etc.
Interestingly, we had our first ever interaction with a "group gift" for one of my kids' friends a few weeks ago... Same idea, everyone throws money at a single, larger gift card (say for Chinook) and that's it... Definitely doesn't work for all ages, but as the kids get older, I think I could get used to this...

Or cyclists could just chill the f out when they’re on shared pathways.
For all the talk of cycling infrastructure and culture in Europe, I gotta wonder how many dudes who rip around in spandex here have actually been to Europe and seen how cyclists behave there.
Yes, loads of people in European cities ride bikes. And some cities have lots of dedicated cycle lanes. But cyclists ride slowly on them. They’re usually wearing street clothes and making a 2 km trip to a cafe or grocers, so they’re not winding it out. Try ripping around the cycling lanes and pathways in Amsterdam or Copenhagen and see how people react.
You know where cyclists who want to get all kitted out and do 25k/h+ ride in Europe? On the road with the cars.

OK, if that's how we are playing...you know what Europe has? Lots of off highway long distance bike paths that are not 2 feet of gravel covered shoulder on sketchy highways with human feces driving oversized pickup trucks murdering them every few years, because their ego is offended by someone out trying to enjoy the world.
So you know what we need? More separate cycling infrastructure. My point stands. Good effort, though.

I'd look at how their urban design and driver behaviour differs from us before pointing the finger at differences in cyclist behaviour.

They all matter. But poor infrastructure does not in any way excuse ####ty behaviour.

You’re still going to have loads of shared infrastructure, just like they have in Europe. Places like the Bow River Pathway, the Glenmore reservoir, Fish Creek, etc. There just isn’t the space to build dedicated and totally separate paths for cyclists and pedestrians everywhere. And even where you do, you’re going to have some people toddling along on bikes at 10km/hr and others doing 40k. So riders need to A) chill the #### out and be okay with slowing down and yielding frequently, and B) hand signal and use their bells whenever they overtake or change lanes.
I’ve been cycling in this city for over 40 years, and for all the complaints of cyclists about not being treated fairly, I’ve seen zero improvement by most cyclists themselves when it comes to courtesy and following the rules of the road (yes, cycling is governed by rules just like driving is).
I’d actually say the behaviour has regressed. It used to be routine to call out “on your left” when you overtake someone. Now I get it maybe 10 per cent of the time, and another 20 per cent of the time somebody rings a bell. The other 70 per cent of the time no signal of any kind - just someone huffing by with zero communication or consideration. I bet if you tracked every cyclist using Calgary roads and pathways this week, most would use their bell zero times and hand signal zero times. No wonder collisions and near-collisions are routine on the pathways.
Build all the wide shoulders and dedicated cycle paths you like. Until cyclists themselves get onboard with the notion that their behaviour should be governed by rules the same as when they’re driving cars, they’ll continue to have a bad reputation with pedestrians and motorists.

"cyclists" = "people". Congrats, you've discovered the trend that people are become more selfish #######s.
You are missing the point that people go to places like Glenmore because it is one of the few safe places to ride without vehicles, and that is continuous without too many road crossings. it is precisely because we don't have safe infrastructure that we create these conflicts. Look at the Edworthy path, what a ridiculous state that is, and that it is so narrow even today.

If it matters, I use the elbow pathways almost daily and have for several years. This was one of the worst days I’d ever seen for cyclists acting like #######s. Rarely do I see multiple near misses within minutes and such ####ty behaviour. Part of why I was so annoyed.

Calgary has plenty of separate bike infrastructure.
I know you like to bitch and moan about Calgary, but truth is for biking the weather is the worst issue.
Visit Montreal.

Ok, what are the top 5 separate bike infrastructure routes in the city?
WTF does weather have to do with this conversation? That the city has slipped a lot over the past 5 years on winter pathway and bike lane clearing? We agree!
I have visited and biked Montreal, what point are you aiming at?

If Calgary has such ####ty biking infrastructure, it shouldn’t be hard to name some cities you’re familiar with that we should be modelling ourselves after. And yes, cities with 6 months of winter are probably the best comparables.
