In its filings, the Katz Group alleges that Boyle Street didn't try hard enough to fundraise and was planning to rely on the backstop gift.
"The charity has not utilized its 'best efforts' in undertaking and completing the capital campaign," it alleges in an amended statement of claim filed Nov. 24, 2023.
The Katz Group claims that Boyle Street initially targeted a small number of private donors, rather than casting a wider net for donations, that its efforts to get government funding were inadequate, and that Boyle Street was fundraising for its endowment fund rather than focusing on raising money for its new site.
It's also alleged that Boyle Street failed to provide regular updates on the status of the fundraising efforts.
The claim asks the court to declare that Boyle Street breached the contract and that the Katz Group doesn't have to pay any part of the $5 million.

A very Oiler thing to do. Right up there with trading Patrick O'Sullivan when he disclosed his abuse to them and asked for help.
Just a phenomenal group of people running that Ponzi scheme.

Huh.
That seems like it'd be a hard claim to prove.

Remember when they asked Mike Comrie to pay back his bonus in order to trade him away? Shirking on deals is nothing new for that franchise.
Funnily enough that request cost them Corey Perry...

Lol, first back-to-back for the Oilers in god knows how long and they get the bottom feeder Ducks, followed by a mediocre Kings team who have been terrible lately.

Glad that it is now out in the open and the scumbaggery is on display for all to see.
Public funds going to private ventures hardly ever turns out well. See Feds providing funds for pandemic to get tents, PPE etc.
Seems to me that when the Bow (that circular building in YYC...I think that's its name) was built, public funds went to it to provide an indigenous art museum which...conveniently...somehow....got....disappear ed as well.
I know someone who works at Boyle and the staff are not happy about their clients getting booted so the Ice Palace can look "pretty" all the time for Darryl and his buddies. And the sweatpants crowd.

The Bow Building refuded the REIT when it was decided not to include the south tower. This isn't even close to the same thing.

First back to back since March 2023 (27/28). First time this season. Although that also means they have all 7 of their back to backs in their remaining 36 games. That being said the travel is beyond light between them Eastern conference teams are probably pretty envious with this set up.
@ANA-@LA (no travel), MIN-CGY (no travel), @SEA-PIT, @BUF-@PIT, @TOR-@OTT, COL-@CGY, ARI-VAN (No travel), @ARI-@COL.

Stiffing a homeless shelter (and then trying to shake them down) is a terrible look.

Not true, they had 2 B2B's in December. No travel though, so they had a nice little schedule setup for the first half of the year.

You are right I missed the @NJ-@NYR and @LA-@ANA. Still 10 back to backs on the season they they may spend a total of 10 hours in the air.

Like..
A) how do you measure trying hard enough?
B) why are they penny pinching over this after bending the city over to fund the ice district
and C) what a stupid bone to pick given the operation and the PR sensitivity around it
Can't Lord Deviated Septum just charge $70 for burger combos instead of $50 and call ot a day? Oilers fans are guaranteed to fill their leaky tin can for the rest of the year.

I don't think they worry too much about that kind of thing. They seem to be ok with everyone knowing that they are scum.

Hire Kane, people shove their hands in their pockets and look the other way.
Hire Perry two months after termination, people shove their hands in their pockets look the other way
Next logical step is pursuing that homeless shelter shakedown. Just remind the local media beforehand who cuts their cheques and it just might work out!

The homeless aren't trying "hard enough?"
What was Katz expecting? Holding Bum Fights as intermission entertainment?

Here's an idea:
Let the league step in and relocate the Coyotes to Edmonton and the Oilers to Arizona. The craziness will entertain us all for years, and we'll never have to hear the Canadian media pump McAvi's tires again.

But 'On Brand' though.
They might even have sent Corey Perry and Evander Kane to collect the Rent whilst wearing top-hats and tails and smoking cigars!
