I don't mind this trade, better than losing him for nothing, and it is less likely Pens can afford to re-sign him, so higher chance he ends up back here next season.

Tough situation for the Flames, Iginla is a pending UFA, he has a NTC and NMC.

Feaster mentioned in his press conference, he had 3 offers.

Even if the Flames perferred another deal.... the player has the final say.

Deal seems okay.... I like they obtained a draft pick, althought it could be number 30 in the first round.

As for the players... I suspect one of them who is the Senior could be sign and could be with Abbotsford this year.....

Would like to the see the Flames move a few more players for more picks and Prospects.

This is the danger of the team wanting to do right by Iginla and have him involved and making the final decision. All Feaster et al. could do was try to leverage the best deal they could from each, and tell Iggy which one the team prefers. Unfortunately, he chose what appears to be the weakest of the three. But I guess you go with it, because of all he's meant to team and city and fan.

The real mistake appears to have been made in mishandling the initial discussions, and pushing too hard too quickly in trying to leverage better deals out of the teams early on. If Shero did indeed offer more last week and Feaster said it wasn't enough, it's hard to fault him as he'd have been raked over the coals for accepting a first offer. But such is the dangerous game of dealing with a sage like Shero (another factor out of Feaster's control)--he doesn't blink, and instead cranks the screws on Feaster by acquiring Morrow. At that stage, the Iginla auction was sunk, and we were always going to be disappointed. So you take the pick, you hope at least one of the guys winds up being a serviceable NHLer, but the real effect of this trade is a turning of the page.

The good thing about that 30th pick is lets say we end up with the 5th-7th pick, we could dangle our 2 first round picks and maybe move up to 1st-3rd.

I love the top comment on ESPN's article about the Iginla trade

Whether you agree or disagree with this trade, I think we can all agree that the Vancouver Canucks have never won the Stanley Cup

In 1985, the Calgary Herald ripped Cliff Fletcher after he dealt Kent Nilsson, arguing that he was fleeced and basically called for him to be fired.

The return we got today is really unknowable today. The future is not yet written, but we're currently looking at two prospects who will likely play within the next couple years, an extra first rounder (hopefully 30th overall) and what will likely be a top five pick. If Bouwmeester moves as well, probably three first rounders.

People wanted picks and prospects. We're collecting them. We'll see just what we got in a few years.

This is where you are wrong, Iginla is the only one holding the cards on the trade because of his NMC. Iggy wanted the Pens and said no to every other team, we have no say in this what-so-ever.

All we could do is trade him to the Pens or say no and have him walk after this season, so it's a no-brainer.

Well it looks like I'll be going to the Rangers-Pens game on Wednesday.

I like to think I do a pretty good job of remembering that this is a business and not getting caught up in the fanaticism of it all, but this trade kind of threw that off. I'm really happy that Iggy will get a shot at a much deserved Cup, but man the thought that he won't be a Flame anymore had me a little choked up this morning.

Shero is a great GM and all but its Easier to do a good job when you have two generational talents, and another two top 5 picks to build around.

Lets you take a little more risk in drafting and when making trades.

Go to bed only for minutes later to have Penguins actually be the team Iggy is going to now. What a turn of events. He has a better shot winning there. Team has a viscous top 6.

Um, that's exactly what I'm saying. The team could have manufactured leverage by saying "we don't care if you want Pittsburgh, they aren't offering enough; we'd rather just not trade you." But they would never do that to Iggy, nor should they have.

The Boston deal was MUCH better! Hopefully we can move Jay Bo to the Wings for Nyqist or Tatar!

Yeah, I just want him to win. The real reason I am disappointed is because I read Hfboards. Some pens fans were ready to offer Pouliot and a first.

The agreed consensus there was Maata, Kennedy, and 1st.

I would have definitely taken those two offers.

Stupid HFboards.

Go Iggy Go!

Playing a game of chicken in this situation is a bad idea. You can't afford to lose Iggy for nothing.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that Ray Shero does not post to HFboards
