Who's grabbing money? The Federal carbon tax requires all dollars to be returned to the provinces they were collected in.

This has to be hard for Yoho. Gets played for a fool by his mother figure, and then has to choose between praising Notley for putting forth a motion for an exemption on more home heating or criticisizing her for it “not being enough” which then implies Smith’s half-hearted proposals and political L’s deserve criticism.

So you're pissed about the carbon tax (because Trudeau) but you're ok with your pal Smith allowing private electric companies to withhold power to drive up rates. Well over 120% increase in utility bills. And what is your pal Smith doing about that? Nothing.

But how can they look good to Albertans when they 'cap the rates' on insurance (and somehow dunk on Notley at the same time), if they don't uncap them first (hoping people forget about that)?

Short Term Plan:

Starting January 1, 2024, Albertans with good driving records will see auto insurance rates increase by no higher than what the rate of inflation was (3.7%) in September of this year.

Got a ticket in last 4 years or an accident in last 6? This doesn't apply to you, and looks like there is no limit on your increase. So I imagine these people will get an increase more than usual to offset the lower increase the good drivers get.

Automobile Insurance Rate Board will have the power to tell individual insurance companies to return to drivers a portion of the premiums collected in those years where profits are significantly higher.

Oh ya sure, totally believe this will happen. Government forcing a private company to return profits.

The rate board will monitor carefully rate increases in 2024 to ensure they are reasonable and can be justified.

They'll monitor and watch alright, but will/can they do anything?

The rate board will also be able to to review and possibly lower the rates of any insurer if necessary.

Ok, a review board sound like a good idea if someone thinks they are getting shafted. How quickly will this be overwhelmed?

Long Term Plan:

The Smith government has also hired deep-thinkers to do a deep-dive into what places elsewhere are doing to get a grip on high insurance rates.

Oh boy, I won't hold my breathe.

As for the Smith government’s long-term fix in early 2024, Horner says it has to look at costs. ...there has to be talk about “the legal aspects around bodily injury.” “The next step will have to look at actually removing the cost.”
Questions like: Who can sue and when, if ever and for much?

Sounds like very little on lowering rates and just removing costs to insurance companies by limiting our damage awards.
