I despise Trump as much as the next person, but political violence is for losers. No matter the political spectrum.

This is tragic on multiple levels. It's tragic that this #### happens at a political rally, and it's obviously tragic that people died. And on a political level, there's no way this doesn't help Trump, so might as well get ready for a REALLY dark timeline.

All: please discuss the news of the day without the personal insults, attacks, and wishing for someone (Trump) to die.

Thank you.

Some people need to read history. How many assassinations have happened in US history?

Regan got shot and almost died. That I believe was the last major one.

US is drenched in blood and conflict. Always has been. Its not Canadian or right but its their way.

I find it astounding people are shocked another attempt was made. Its frankly and sadly long overdue.

I definitely don't wish death on anyone but if Trump was picked off it wouldn't be something to feel bad about. Guy is an absolute abhorant human being and has lead America right down the path of fascism.

I'm certainly not going to sit here and wish he got it worse, simply for the fact that assassinations are bad for politics. But if he did, I can't say I'd feel bad either

This is bad all around in any scenario imaginable. We might look back at this as the moment that solidified the end of democracy in the US.

This is the Reichstag Fire of American politics.

Right. He's a horrible person but nothing good comes from him being assassinated and becoming a a martyr. I want him to die in the most embarrassingly pathetic way possible, like getting run over by his own golf cart.

One of the sad lessons we're going to learn from this shooting is that we're not going to learn anything from it.

I'm scared of the retaliation his deranged, heavily armed followers are going to seek.
They'll see this as a declaration of war.

There were many assassination attempts of U.S. presidents and politicians.

The following presidents (or former) were either assassinated, survived assassination attempts, or plots were foiled ahead of time. And these are just the ones that are public knowledge:

Assassinated:

Lincoln
Garfield
McKinley
Kennedy

Attempted and Survived:

T. Roosevelt
Reagan
Trump

Plots Foiled:

Jackson
Lincoln
Taft
Hoover
F. Roosevelt
Truman
Kennedy
Nixon
Ford
Carter
H.W Bush
Clinton
G.W. Bush
Obama
Trump

America has always suffered from this.

So until facts come out it’s fairly reckless to engage in conspiracy peddlin.

Biden can’t get back onto stage after this .. right ?

Maybe this allows Biden to exit the race over fears for his safety

Here are my questions that have to be part of any investigation, and I expect that the congressional hearings that will happen are going to be really uncomfortable for the Secret Service.

1. Is the shooter previously known or on any watchlist?
2. How did he get a weapon into the rally, I would have expected that there are searches or x rays for anyone entering the rally. Was its a composit or plastic firearm?

3. Was this gun a registered fire arm (unlikely).
4. What were the political viewpoints of the shooter.

CNN just had a pretty troubling interview with a bleacher attendee who was in front of a bystander that took a bullet to the head and died immediately. The guy helped drag the deceased person off the bleachers and to try to get some help. Pretty poorly staged incident.

Thank you for this list, and what was the common thread here? These weren't evil state sponsored or organizational assassination attempts. Or if they were, they were not plots formulated by the US government, nor US political parties.

By the way Biden has responded via social media and its about as perfect as a reply to this as possible.

I would think that the best thing politically for both of them is to literally hold a join press conference, and promise to cool the rhetoric.
