Can somebody tell me why I would ever use a street over an avenue?

Wow, I wonder if Amazon did that or if EA did asked them to?
Must be Amazon, it's still for sale on Origin.

Cost is the only one I can think of.

I must be one of the very few to not exprience 90% of the issues posted in this thread. I have only had one crash, which I was able to restart and reenter the game immediately and everything was saved. I do notice I lose connection to the servers every once and a while, but it is quickly reconnected and resynced. I have only experienced one queue as well. I expected more. Granted, I have only played during 2 evenings.

I decided to try and get a refund but wasn't going to put too much effort into it because I feel like I would just be buying it again once the issues were resolved. Well I ended up getting the DLC (German, British, French) for free as a sorry. TBQH I'm happy with this because like I said I would have bought the game again anyways and kinda regretted not buying the DLC at purchase. Now just sit and wait until the problems are resolved.

Saves a bit of space, I assume. Maybe it's in a place where you will never need to knock down adjacent structures.

Space and cost. But yeah, with the massive amount of traffic problems, you probably want to put down avenues as much as you can.

With all these issues and the impact, I wonder if Maxis/devs would sue EA? Or is that out the window because EA owns them.

I'm really liking the Kickstarter model for games to overthrow the current evil publisher model. I mean, we pretty much all love Maxis, but they're under this horrible corporate umbrella that forces problems on them, and us. Will Wright needs to get everyone out of there and start over, ie Brian Fargo and Wasteland 2.

I'm not going to declare any love for the Kickstarter model until actual games start getting released. That said, I've donated for at least 5 games on KS so far, but I'm reserving judgement for the models effectiveness.
Even 4 mil isn't that much for a (large scale) game's development, with most decent titles costing around 5-7 mil and AAA titles 10+.

Don't you think the SimCity team could have hit $10M? I mean, if Torment and Wasteland can get $2M? Even though Wasteland is arguably as important to the history of gaming as SimCity, I wouldn't say it has the same fanbase.

Star Citizen pulled in 6.5 million in crowd funding, which got the the developers an additional 10-12 million in private funding. this will likely be the benchmark for all crowd sourced games, if Chris Roberts can deliver everything that he promises with it then i bet you see this method become the standard for every developer not already swallowed by EA or Activision

Didn't know they pulled in another 10 mil in private funding. That's pretty damn awesome.
I just threw some money at it and walked away until it's release.

it was dependent on how well the crowd funding went. as they completely obliterated their target goal, they got all the private funding they asked for and a bit more i think. and i just checked the site, they're up to almost 8.5 million in crowd funding now (the Kickstarter is done, but donations are still open on their own site), so that should mean almost 20 mil in total funding
that's enough for a true Triple-A title without having to go through a publisher. i really hope this catches on and the likes of EA and Activision become obsolete. nothing would please me more than to see companies like Maxis, Bioware, and DICE get under that ugly umbrella

Don't forget the first company to get absorbed, poor poor Westwood Studios.

I'm glad Amazon has done something...maybe it will wake EA up a bit that they actually need to plan better for this. Everyone saw this coming. Everyone knew it was going to happen, yet it still happened.
Maybe these types of launches can be equated to that old saying about how if you want to build a fire, gather as much wood as you can. When you think you have enough, double it. Maybe EA needs to take this approach with some of its high profile releases.
Also, reading through the Amazon reviews is pretty fun.
