Isn’t the go to knock on Monahan that he isn’t a first line centre without decent line mates? Now it’s a goal of ours?

Right?
Also Dvorak is like a budget Monahan at best... and people are clamoring that he's going to all of a sudden turn into a #1C savior? Jesus I know its slow but you guys are on some serious koolaid.

I also want some change on the roster, but I think one of the biggest issues for Treliving is having is that all his peers know he wants to make a change and has probably been given garbage offers. I don't think the team can afford to do a Hall or Keith (or the Flames version in Savard) trade. If that is the case then I am fine with letting things play out until the right deal is there, or at least one where we aren't trending on twitter for the wrong reasons. Hopefully after the ED the trade market opens up.

Only if those decent linemates are named McDavid and Draisaitl.

It will be interesting to see how much cap space Calgary has after the ED

What type of deal do you guys think Hall will be looking for? Something like the 6x6 special?

Come on, let’s be serious. Our prospects are way below average to not good. We have Zary and Pelletier as our best, and neither of them have top line potential. If they develop we’ll get a couple middle six players, which is acceptable for where they were drafted. Wolf and Kuznetsov are probably the next best, but a lot of that can be contributed to the lack of depth in the system. Where they stack up against other prospects at their positions is not overly high. After that, we are on the short end of the prospect stick. The Flames have a bunch of long shots, but that is understandable when you’re picking in the 4th through 7th rounds. You don’t get many quality players in those rounds and the Flames’ system is reflective of that.

Add to this year's picks and next and we could be in a great spot going forward.
|
A great spot? Well, we’ll be seeing an improvement, but so will most teams in the league as they add prospects to their systems as well. The Flames are several drafts away from being in a great position, and that is on,y if the scouts come through and pick some kids that actually develop. We’re prospect poor and we need more than an extra pick or two in a below average draft to fix the problems facing the system.

I wonder if we see Brandon Sutter offered a contract. I wouldn't want it to be more than... 1.5 Mil? Even that seems high.

I'd take him on the 4th line for sure. Can probably fill in higher in the lineup when injuries happen.

Now, I'm only comparing stats here and not the players overall, but, this is what I've come up with since 2015-16 :
Monahan / Eichel
---------- -------
GP- 435 GP- 375
G - 151 (0.35%) G - 139 (0.37%)
A - 192 (0.44%) A- 216 (0.58%)
Pts- 343 (0.79) Pts- 355 (0.94)
PPG - 48 (0.11%) PPG- 41 (0.11%)
PPP - 104 (0.24%) PPP- 127 (0.34%)
GWG- 35 GWG - 25
OTG - 7 OTG - 8
S% - 13.7 S% - 10.5
F/O% - 50.9 % F/O% - 44.1 %
I found the numbers interesting. It tells me that Eichel scores over a third of his points on the PP and Monahan just under a quarter so Monahan actually scores more on 5x5 which I thought was interesting. Also interesting that their goals per game were very similar but Eichel had the advantage in assists thus his Points per game was better but their PPG % was identical.
I had to knock Monahan's GWG from 45 (best in league since 2013-14) to 35 to match the 2015-16 starting point and on-
I had no idea about how terrible Eichel's F/O% or S% was until I looked this up. I'm not saying that Monahan is equal to Eichel at all here but sometimes it's surprising to look at Monahan's stats and realize how consistent and productive he has been in his career thus far. I wouldn't say either is a defensive specialist or physically hard to play against. I don't know the advanced stats on the two and barely know how to read those, but I thought it was fun to compare statistically wise.
|
Props for making the analysis! I stand corrected.
Personally, I’d rather go for someone else at this point. Starting to think the Eichel price tag is a bit much and I’d rather try and get wingers that can push Dube to the third line with Backlund and Lucic.

I think he still has potential. It was clear back then (and still is) that he was the third best forward to Marner and Tkachuk, but I would be pretty stoked if we found a way to reunite that line. Chemistry goes a long way. Obviously, there’s a distinct difference between OHL and NHL hockey, but you can’t deny the chemistry they had.

I thought I read somewhere Hall was likely doing a bridge deal, so maybe a 3 year, 20m deal. I think his stint in Boston earned himself some term with somewhat good $’s.

also Emilio Pettersson, but I agree with the comments... I haven't been too impressed with amateur scouting, though many have a different opinion.
No one really will know until they get to the NHL, that said, out of the prospects we have, there's maybe 5 guys that will be NHL regulars?
Are there any except for Zary and Pelletier that could be first line players? I mean, I don't see it, but hope I am wrong

He is much more offensively talented than Backlund. Get him out of the desert where he has been misused and put him with decent talent and he will absolutely rip it up. Watch and see if he moves. Now people will call me crazy like they always do when I predict something and I will knock it out of the park like I always do and then people will pile on for me posting I told you so. Rinse and repeat.

And exactly where is Edmonton getting over $5M in cap to pay Andersen? You guys can't afford him.

Does that mean a Neal or Koskinen buyout is on the way?
