Anyone else not really buy it?
I picture a signed contract in a locked desk drawer and the agent getting Dreger to put a pretty face on it to keep Seattle from raising a stink. This is pure speculation but Swedes are very loyal and Landeskog leaving as captain doesn’t add up

Maybe they could do something around Johnny for Marner to if they cant get a deal done and reunite the Knights.

I think I would want to add big on our end and try to include Garland
Arizona probably would want to flip Monahan as I think they want to cut costs

I don’t think there is anything wrong with agreeing to a deal in principal and waiting until after the draft to sign it. As long as either team can legally back out.
Now if it’s signed and in a drawer, that’s a different matter.
No reason to pretend he’s going to UFA.

I really hope the Flames make zero trades and keep the off-season to drafting all their picks and re signing Johnny.

Why do opposing opinions make you so defensive that you feel the need to lash out?
Not everyone wants to trade from a position of weakness, doesn't mean they want to lose.
Personally, I would love for them to make a good trade for the betterment of the team, I just can't see how that would be possible this offseason. Would love to be proved wrong.

I think the team refuses to rebuild. The last thing I want to see is our picks and prospects moved. I also think johnny can be part of a new Flames team.
I'm up for moving Monahan, but only after he hopefully can improve his value this coming season.
If the team drafts well and sells off at the next trade deadline it could be a quick 2 year rebuild

I believe it. Petriangelo left the Blues. Last big contract take the dollars, and I think Colorado would rather spend that type of money somewhere else.
I don't think Landeskog will re-sign with Colorado.

Drafting well and selling off at next years deadline (presumably for futures) likely means an improved farm system but not likely a very good team.
And which UFA’s to be are moving at the next deadline?

That would be a massive homerun. Dvorak has 1st line C potential with decent linemates.

Maybe no UFA's move. Trade Monahan with term left. Trade backlund if possible. Draft high next year and then start building around Lindholm, Johnny, Zary,Pelletier, Hanifin,Anderson, Mangiapani.
I think our prospects are better than ppl give them credit. Guys like Francis, Phillips, Wolf, Yan just to mention a few.
Add to this year's picks and next and we could be in a great spot going forward.
I don't like seeing my Flames suck the next 2 years, but what else is a legitimate plan going forward?

I can argue that Lindholm and Backlund help us tremendously in our own zone. The problem is the offensive consistency from this team. I want someone like Eichel to help us in that department. We can bring up his point production in Buffalo as a negative, but I think the negative behind that is the team and not the player. Once again, ROR is the perfect example. I assume Ristolainen and Reinhart have an extra gear too.
|
I got to think about what you said about offensive consistency on this team and got curious about an offensive comparison between Eichel and Monahan since Eichel started in 2015-16 as Monahan had a two year start on him with already two 20 plus goal years so I started the comparison at 2015-16. Now, I'm only comparing stats here and not the players overall, but, this is what I've come up with since 2015-16 :
Monahan / Eichel
---------- -------
GP- 435 GP- 375
G - 151 (0.35%) G - 139 (0.37%)
A - 192 (0.44%) A- 216 (0.58%)
Pts- 343 (0.79) Pts- 355 (0.94)
PPG - 48 (0.11%) PPG- 41 (0.11%)
PPP - 104 (0.24%) PPP- 127 (0.34%)
GWG- 35 GWG - 25
OTG - 7 OTG - 8
S% - 13.7 S% - 10.5
F/O% - 50.9 % F/O% - 44.1 %
I found the numbers interesting. It tells me that Eichel scores over a third of his points on the PP and Monahan just under a quarter so Monahan actually scores more on 5x5 which I thought was interesting. Also interesting that their goals per game were very similar but Eichel had the advantage in assists thus his Points per game was better but their PPG % was identical.
I had to knock Monahan's GWG from 45 (best in league since 2013-14) to 35 to match the 2015-16 starting point and on-
I had no idea about how terrible Eichel's F/O% or S% was until I looked this up. I'm not saying that Monahan is equal to Eichel at all here but sometimes it's surprising to look at Monahan's stats and realize how consistent and productive he has been in his career thus far. I wouldn't say either is a defensive specialist or physically hard to play against. I don't know the advanced stats on the two and barely know how to read those, but I thought it was fun to compare statistically wise.

If that was the case the Coyotes wouldn't have him available. He's 25 years old with a career high of 38 points (I do realize he was on pace for over 40 points in an 82 game season but still). He's barely on pace for 2nd line center potential. Not saying he's a bad player but I don't think he's an upgrade on any of the top 3 centers the Flames currently have.

Yeah, I view him as a younger Backlund which is still valuable but not a #1C on any good team.

Few players with term move during the trade deadline, as contenders seldom have the cap going forward.
