Add me to the delayed pre order list, (it was bumped until tomorrow)... So instead I just walked into future shop at noon and bought one (thought that was weirdly easy). And then, about half an hour ago, my preordered one arrived, so now I have two 16GB wifi ipads.
I'm debating: take it back? Or dedicated crapper iPad?

So I ended up returning my iPad today in Phoenix.
I get to the store at 10 AM and there's a friggin HUGE line up outside. Turns out there are no iPad's in Phoenix/Scottsdale! Thank goodness for supply and demand. Ended up selling it for a small profit to a Canadian who was vacationing and looking for and iPad for the wife.
I played with it in the Apple store but I am still very content with my touch. Have fun with the iPad everyone. It really is a beautiful piece of machine!

This thing is amazing. Wow. I have done nothing but iPad all day it's been great!!! By the way, if you're connected through wifi and have earphones with a mic the iPhone Skype app works like a charm.
Battery life is incredible so far...
YouTube is better than YouTube the site.
3G version was the way to go I think, but we will see.
Oh glorious day!

I tried one out at the Apple Store today. Twice even. The second time, I spent five minutes just playing that Labyrinth game. They're so lightweight and responsive. I don't need one..and can't afford one.. but damnit, I want one

The internet is a horrible, horrible place. Thank god the iPad and iPhone and Apple apps came along to save this lady and others who live in fear of the internet.

Similar to the iPhone but the iPhone doesn't even come close to the quality and experience of reading it on the iPad.
The books are $1.99 each. They have a decent selection of free ones to start you off but the main selection isn't up to par for any real comic book reader. They issues are a few year's old.
Marvel needs to start putting out newer issues and selling them in trades. Possibly offer subscriptions.

Someone else mentioned it in a thread here too, but I'm getting real tired of the fear-mongering. It's like the Liberals... Instead, we're just going to write a bunch of articles to tell you that the Conservatives will eat your children if you vote for them."
Here's an idea. How about somebody make a device that will compete against the iPad, and let people choose for themselves? I mean actually compete. Not just some piece of crap with a 2 hour battery and a 2gb flash drive, running Windows.
The only reason people ever have to revert to articles like this, is when there is no sign of competition from anywhere else.

My exact thoughts reading that as well.

Well... With all due respect, "my god I hate the pretentiousness of Apple fanboys" is a far cry from "my god I hate the way Apple makes their employees do lame things."

The writing style leaves a lot to desired, any maybe that’s why the point was lost on your, but....
Curated computing is definitely a different experience of the web. The app-lified version of things like eBay, YouTube, Craigslist, and Facebook are faster, nicer looking, and more responsive. The browser doesn’t get infested with malware plugins. I don’t worry about keyloggers and rootkits.
Maybe having individual apps for everything is a step backwards - I’m not sure. But to dismiss the sea-change in how one experiences the web and personal computing on a curated platform is ridiculous.
You could almost look at curated computing as the Web 2.0 equivalent to thin computing (Citrix terminals), but for a much wider audience.
Is curated computing for everyone? Most definitely not. But it is an interesting, viable, and right now, vibrant, segment of the market.

I completely understand the draw for people like that writer to this kind of sanitized and pretty interaction with information and technology. It's the same for my mom who is now hooked on Apple apps and calls me every day to ask me questions about what apps she should buy.
Unfortunately, the writing style leaves much to be desired as she denigrates normal internet users, is ignorant of what the internet actually is, and presents an elitist attitude that doesn't sit well with some people. She also sort of flip flops on the conclusion of the article which leaves you guessing as to what she really supports.
That said, I completely understand the attraction of having what amounts to a pretty storefront to interact with the web where it is like her analogy of boutique stores and fancy rich neighborhoods versus the "sweatshops" & "slums" of the internet as she views everything else. This is basically the AOL mentality from the late 90s except Apple actally does a decent job at making the experience better for some rather than worse for all.

The difference being though that its easy with modern web infrastructure to deliver both. Epicurious, for example, works fine in a browser and draws upon the same database backend in both the app and the browser. It’s opening up more doors for content producers and developers to present information than closing them off, and its also creating a new revenue stream to help finance better content with better interfaces.
It’s also about liberating data from interface paradigms poorly suited to pervasive and mobile use of the web. Try using Epicurious to shop for grocery items as a web page, on a small screen, pinching and zooming and scrolling and dodging banner ads, compared to firing up their app, to get the same data, in an interface that works well with your iPhone. The app puts the information I need in an easy, attractive, and accessible format without tethering me to an interface designed for a keyboard, mouse, and full browser.

See, I didn't even know Epicurious had the same features on a website. I only knew it from the iPhone/iPad apps.
Apps are a great way to extend your presence and engage new users. Even if the same functionality exists on the web.

Anyone else having trouble setting up the iPad email to connect to a Shaw email account? I've tried all morning and can't get mine to work.
