Within the context of Calgary 1999 versus Calgary 2009 for instance, Calgary has become more vibrant for sure. But compared to most other major cities, Calgary is still exceptionally boring. No major city should have such a dead downtown after 8pm. After 8 is when the downtown should come to life, not go to sleep.
Again, long way to go but it's so much better now. That's all I was saying.

Just for fun, what other "major cities" are we referring to here?

oh - and I'm sure this is probably unpopular with 50% of the population but if a woman bends over in front of me and I can see down their shirt - I ain't looking away.

Yeah, exactly. I find usually when people say "other cities have more to offer", as if it's a slight against a certain city, what they're usually reffering to is bigger cities, and yes, no **** they have more to offer.

As for an unpopular opinion, I think all NHL players are amazing hockey players, and most AHL players are incredibly talented, and it frustrates me when people rag on players as if they're useless/untalented.
The NHL features the best hockey players in the world, and it's ridiculously difficult to make it to the NHL, and if you do, you're in a very small club (percentage wise) of elite hockey players.
So it's always kind of annoying to me when some of these guys have incredible talent and work ethic, beating out 98% of people who play hockey along the way to make it to the show, but then because they're on the fourth line, a bunch of internet guys go "meh, he's a 4th line scrub", as if he's garbage.
I fully understand that people are reffering to them as scrubs and replacable garbage only in comparison to other NHL players, and that most people understand how talented they are, but the wording and general attitude towards lower end NHL players still annoys me.

I think there have only been been about 5,000 athletes who have ever played in the NHL. Imagine the number who have tried.

The Dave Clark Five is one of the best boy bands ever. Much of their music was on par with the work of the Beatles. (I suspect most of the people on CP don't know or hardly know of this fine group, although in their day they were very popular for parts of their career.) They're under-appreciated by the boomer generation.
FYP and that's not really meant as an insult as they were probably far better than any pop bands around these days.

Pretty much this, though Calgary is growing so fast we need to start developping actual things to do around here. Like maybe a real amusement park? Calaway Park is so awful it makes the Stampede Midway look like Six Flags. Calgary though is pretty much one big suburbia, and it definitely lacks the grit of cities like Montreal and Vancouver (though obviously, it also lacks the riots of those cities)

Yes, we are a growing city and MMF's point was that things are being added every year, and if you look back to Calgary from 10 years ago, we're infinitly better than. we were. We're adding more and more summer festivals and events, and the ones that are already in place are growing every year (Sled Island for example)
The two cities you mentioned have about 3 million more people than Calgary. I'm not sure when Calgary's expected to hit the 4 million mark for population, but I'd suspect it's not in the near future, and I'd also suspect we'll have some **** to show for it when we do.

The best way to think about it is to watch some of those videos of NHLers shooting on regular guys. Fair enough that they give Parros every advantage they can afford, but I think all of us wish we could shoot as hard and accurate as he does.
I believe most of the dog crap in the offleash areas is from those who are not even aware their dog is taking a crap.
I just watched a young fellow walking along, deep in thought, while his dog was taking a huge crap just behind him, and he wasn't paying any attention to what his dog was doing.
