Ron MacLean was the "it's not a matter of 'if', it's a matter of 'how many'" guy. Before this season started, I think.
No, Ron MacLean said something like they'll win within 3 years before this season started. The "it's not if, but how many" was all Healy, and he said it in 2012 I believe.

Gimme a glass of wine or a beer, and I think in two years they win the Cup. That may be a little eager, but I don’t think more than four. -Ron MacLean
I think he means that if you were asking him off the cuff and he was in the prognosticating mood (ie. had a few drinks), that is what he'd say. Definitely not as pompous as "when not if".
JG Hart Trophy discussion on "Tim & Sid" just now:
-empty net hat trick "does it matter"? Tim: yes. Sid: no. ("It's like 2.5 goals"-whatever that means)
-JG scoring leader in December
-JG tied with Tarasenko for avg goals per game
-show Maclean/Friedman from post-game last night: Maclean says Johnny Hockey in MVP conversation
-some lame jokes about Friedman's penmanship
-video flashback to earlier in December, Sid saying USA Hockey should be getting him to Olympics; calls JG "elite"; says "Johnny Hockey" is cartoon-character name (unbefitting his skill)
-more lame jokes (something about banana bread)
-put JG into Hart Trophy candidates; say Flames have to make the playoffs for JG to be serious contender ("thick" field overall again which JG has to compete for MVP status)
-discussion shifts to other contenders (Benn, Kane, Karlsson)
Bonus:
-don't know why they titled this segment with JG; not much substantial discussion about him
-I'm trying to give this show a chance, but, man, it's hard to watch.

From cheating at Chutes and Ladders to racing his brother upstairs. Johnny Gaudreau and his insatiable will to win:

Shocked to see it was Lambert that wrote this glowing piece on Gaudreau's OT heroics.
Quote:
Gaudreau basically drags the Flames kicking ands screaming to some of the best differentials in the league, with the only difference really being that when he's on the ice, other teams get more going offensively as well, except where goals are concerned. He creates an absurd amount of offense that the Flames, without him, cannot really hope to replicate, and that's reflected in the fact that he has scored 3-4-7 on his team's eight OT goals this season. He even picked up an assist on one of the two for which he was off the ice.
Let's put it as simply as possible. Gaudreau has personally taken eight of the Flames' 30 high-quality chances (40 percent), 11 of their 31 scoring chances overall (35 percent), and 14 of their 36 shots attempts (40 percent). By himself. Which, I think, goes a long way toward explaining why he's gotten in on seven of their eight goals (87.5 percent).
Quote:
All blessings to that little fellow. He is perfect. And by the way, he's in a contract year. When you're personally worth this many points in a given season, the team really ought to just get a blank check. In OT alone, Gaudreau has gotten them almost 16 percent of their point total for the season, to say nothing of his 17-23-40 in 48 in regulation. And again, OT success seems like a quality he's capable of repeating over and over again in the long-term.
You'd hope, for their sake, that Brad Treliving has a crew of his teammates working around the clock to load money into a dump truck already.
I really don't understand why Wideman still has an "A" on his jersey. Shouldn't that be his job to make those checks? As a matter of fact, none of the Flames defence do that on a regular basis and that is why they play in their own zone for long periods of time.
