You can't forget the loveable press level usher; Edna too. She always enhanced the experience back in the 2000s with her spunky demeanor and cheeky smiles.

We can’t take that away from people.
It's pretty galling if you ask me.

We've had the Saddledome for so long and have grown up with it and have many great memories there. I can see a lot of us being impressed with the new building but not liking it and wishing we can still have the Dome. We'll come around but there will be a few squeaky wheels that won't drop it.

I'm not real familiar with arena ice making/removal and the temperatures involved, but if it's a factor, it'd be no different than any other concrete exposed to the elements. Magic potion is added into concrete mixes forming micro-air pockets. That gives, for a lack of better way to put it, some "cushioning" for expansion when freezing, and contraction while thawing.

Yeah, you used to just have to go to the Mark Jankowski threat to read anything unrelated to Jankowski (and any other thread to read about the player himself). This summer, the off-topic thread is usually the one with the most recent post.

I'm sure hoping that the new arena will have unique design features like the Saddledome had when it was built, but nothing I've seen so far has suggested that the new barn will be as iconic as the Saddledome was, which makes me sad to be losing such an iconic building. Of course, that unique architecture is part of the reason why the Saddledome is now obsolete.

The point is don’t trust your gut.

That leads to sharts.

There was a missed opportunity for a Hot Karl take there.

There's an element of truth to the magic potion. The concrete mixture is somewhat customized depending on what is being poured (support columns, walls, floors etc.) . The concrete slab itself that the ice will sit on is also massively thick compared to the other floor slabs and will be composed of very high strength concrete.

I have lived in Edmonton now longer than I lived in Calgary. Sad fact. I am still Calgarian at heart. Anyways, as a consequence of this most of my closest friends are in fact mouth breathing oiler fans.

For my bachelor party, they kidnapped me and brought me to Calgary for a BOA game. They duck taped an old joffa bucket with oilers stickers on my head and made me wear a ratty oil jersey. We had tickets in the fan zone. Flames won that night and I got to make a lot of people confused as I was cheering loudly for the flames in oilers gear.

Every single one of my friends raved about the game experience at the dome. They loved it. This was right after Rogers opened in Edmonton, so the hate for their new arena was still pretty strong, and they were blown away by the atmosphere and enjoyment in the dome. They all thought it was a library as they had heard said on TV. WRONG.

I will miss the dome when it is gone. Trying to get my kids there for a game this season.

That's a given seeing how many people romanticize the past. I'm sure many will justly be displeased about the higher concession prices as that's usually a negative of new arenas/stadiums.

A large portion of people I know in Edmonton that are season ticket holders only do so because they're making so much of the money back on playoff tickets. They've been getting gouged pretty hard year over year and when the Oiler's collapse (hopefully sooner than later) I would imagine their STH base is going to crash. Prices are insane at $6000+ for mediocre upper bowl seats. Like who is spending $12000 to watch 41 games from the upper bowl with a buddy or spouse?

Many lasts will need to be had for sure and not one is any less upsetting.

Last concert, last pocket dawg, last Flames game, last intermission dump.....the list just goes on and on.

Yeah, it'll be sad when the new rink is opened. The dome is one of the last arenas with any sort of soul or distinct feel to it.

From the fan experience, the only thing missing is more bathrooms. Alas, it's time for the fat cat owners to get even fatter and so they will demo our beloved cathedral of perpetual disappointment and then force us to pay more for a sterile and inauthentic experience.
