I think that other teams could make a better offer for Ras.
Grieg was buried for 20 games when they had a top 6 opening behind Lars Eller. He does not move up the lineup because he is not very good (living in Ottawa and having a son who is a big sens fan, I watch a lot of their games). I have no interest myself in Grieg. Sens would be including him as a salary dump.

So we can talk about the value difference but I strongly believe acquiring either is a looooooooooooooooooong shot.
Is it more likely they move out Hayton? I agree on the long shot but someone is going to have to move, either because they do not have enough roster spots or because they do not have enough cap space to pay all of these players.

Their forward group is pretty stacked:
Cooley - #3OA 2022
Keller - #7OA 2016
Hayton - #5OA 2018
Guenther - #9OA 2021
But - #12OA 2023
Iginla - #6OA 2024
Desnoyers - #4OA 2025

And then Peterka, who is a lowly 2nd round pick but putting up a couple of 27-28 goal seasons and is on pace for 35G this year.

Something has to give... and they do need an upgrade on their D.

The short answer is yes, it is far more likely they trade a guy like Hayton.

Hayton is 25 years old, I think he is what he is. A center who in a very good year can get you 45 points. Not sure what the value of Hayton is but it is probably less than Coleman, especially if there is salary retention on Coleman. Coleman is on pace for 34 points this year, Hayton is on pace for 16. Definitely don’t want Hayton if we are trading with Utah, would much rather target But.

Hayton will be 26 next summer, has a career high of 46 points, and has 5 points this year. Think he definitely needs a change of scenery as he keeps getting passed.

Feels a bit early in this "rebuild" to say we don't need good defense prospects, whats the saying, don't count your chickens before they hatch? Hate to say it but all this Parekh is our #1 D talk feels similar to Bennett being our 1C and how did that turn out for us.

I’m confused.

Are you thinking that I suggested the Flames would have to add Wolf or Parekh for Yakemchuk-Andersson trade? If that’s the case, no. I’m suggesting that rather Senators would likely want a player who has similar age and upside. I think teams are loathe to give up their best prospect for ~30 year olds.

For the sake of argument though, if there was a trade the Flames Senators were discussing for a vet RHS D, I’d think they would have more interest in Weegar. Local guy who has 6 years left on what I would consider, a bargain deal. Andersson is younger but if the extension is part of the deal you’re likely looking at 7-8 more years of Andersson at, what, $8M? $9M? Weegar at $6.25, although older, is pretty attractive, I would say. Especially for Ottawa.
