Grieg was buried for 20 games when they had a top 6 opening behind Lars Eller. He does not move up the lineup because he is not very good (living in Ottawa and having a son who is a big sens fan, I watch a lot of their games). I have no interest myself in Grieg. Sens would be including him as a salary dump.

Is it more likely they move out Hayton? I agree on the long shot but someone is going to have to move, either because they do not have enough roster spots or because they do not have enough cap space to pay all of these players.
Their forward group is pretty stacked:
Cooley - #3OA 2022
Keller - #7OA 2016
Hayton - #5OA 2018
Guenther - #9OA 2021
But - #12OA 2023
Iginla - #6OA 2024
Desnoyers - #4OA 2025
And then Peterka, who is a lowly 2nd round pick but putting up a couple of 27-28 goal seasons and is on pace for 35G this year.
Something has to give... and they do need an upgrade on their D.

The short answer is yes, it is far more likely they trade a guy like Hayton.

Hayton is 25 years old, I think he is what he is. A center who in a very good year can get you 45 points. Not sure what the value of Hayton is but it is probably less than Coleman, especially if there is salary retention on Coleman. Coleman is on pace for 34 points this year, Hayton is on pace for 16. Definitely don’t want Hayton if we are trading with Utah, would much rather target But.

Hayton will be 26 next summer, has a career high of 46 points, and has 5 points this year. Think he definitely needs a change of scenery as he keeps getting passed.

Feels a bit early in this "rebuild" to say we don't need good defense prospects, whats the saying, don't count your chickens before they hatch? Hate to say it but all this Parekh is our #1 D talk feels similar to Bennett being our 1C and how did that turn out for us.

I’m confused.
Are you thinking that I suggested the Flames would have to add Wolf or Parekh for Yakemchuk-Andersson trade? If that’s the case, no. I’m suggesting that rather Senators would likely want a player who has similar age and upside. I think teams are loathe to give up their best prospect for ~30 year olds.
For the sake of argument though, if there was a trade the Flames Senators were discussing for a vet RHS D, I’d think they would have more interest in Weegar. Local guy who has 6 years left on what I would consider, a bargain deal. Andersson is younger but if the extension is part of the deal you’re likely looking at 7-8 more years of Andersson at, what, $8M? $9M? Weegar at $6.25, although older, is pretty attractive, I would say. Especially for Ottawa.

I think some people are wanting this kid because he is from Alberta and played his junior with the Hitmen. They have no reason to move him, he doesn't address a need, and we would have to vastly overpay if you could pry him out of there. I just don't see the want there. If the Sens want Andersson I would rather try and get Pinto back in return.

Bennett never had the pedigree of Parekh. How many OHL records did Sam Bennett break? Parekh is super young for a D man yet, he isn't a bust. I will bet all my earthly possessions in 4-5 years Zayne Parekh is a top pairing offensive defenceman.

Right. So instead of discussing the rumour that the Senators are interested in Andersson and would want to trade for him, you dismiss the entire premise and say that the trade for Andersson only makes sense if it isn't Andersson, but some other player instead.
If they need immediate help on D to push for the playoffs this season, why would they want a prospect that cannot help them immediately? They have urgency to make something happen right away in order to keep players like Tkachuk.
I agree with Diss. If the Sens and Flames are talking about Andersson, Pinto makes more sense as a return. From the Flames perspective, the need is a C. From the Sens perspective, they are pretty strong on LD but could use both Andersson and Yakemchuk on the right side to replace Jensen and Zub in the top 4 over the next few seasons.

The only reason we are talking about him is because it was brought up in a Sportsnet article where they speculate he could be moved for a long term RHD or top forward.
Pinto is waaaaaaay less likely to be traded by Ottawa than Yak. Like it is not even close.

Iginla was Utah’s inaugural 1st round pick and picked specifically because they love the pedigree to go along with the player, they rolled out the red carpets for the entire Iginla family after the draft.
He’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

Okay. Now I’m starting to think you’re confused.
Honest question (maybe I missed it) but what rumour? I think there has been some belief that the Senators have expressed interest in Andersson but that’s not much of a rumour. I’m sure Vegas, Toronto, Dallas, and who knows who else has expressed interest. Is there a legitimate rumour that an Andersson - Yackemchuk deal is being discussed? Seems highly unlikely to me and I’ll be a bit surprised if I tune into Flames Talk today that the a Andersson to the Sens rumours are going to come up. Don’t get me wrong though, I would make that move if I were Conroy. Does trading Pinto, who just extended, make the Senators better? I don’t think so. 25 year old RHS C locked up for the next 5 years? Come on.
Also, I did not say ‘a trade for Andersson only makes sense if it isn’t Andersson’. You’re making things up. I just made a suggestion for the sake of argument/discussion.
And where is this anxiety over Tkachuk emanating from? Is Rasmus Andersson the solution to this? He sure wasn’t for Matthew.

What about Hanley and Zary for Iginla?
Utah needs to do something, you know?

I didn't like how Bill Armstrong acted at that draft when they took Iginla. I think any player is available at the right price, but I also don't see this happening.
I do run into Bill occasionally, and I will work on him.
Utah is a Jekyll and Hyde type of team, and sometimes the lines they use don't make sense. I still maintain they need a culture change, and Coleman could help their young players.

I'm the Insiderrr!!!
I threw it out there that an extended Andersson would be a good fit for what the Senators need as the sportsnet guy suggested the Senators should trade Yakemchuk for a developed right handed defender with term to fit their big hole:
Quote:
|
But if the Senators can get an elite forward or a top-four, right-shot defenceman with seasons under team control, they should pull the trigger. Ottawa’s window to win is the next three years with Tkachuk under contract. But if you trade Yakemchuk, a great player must return.
|
The Tkachuk anxiety is a thing in Ottawa (as noted in this quote). They believe they only have three years to be stanley cup contenders or he'll walk like his brother. And it makes sense as he's put up with a lot of rebuilding and mismanagement there.

Living in Ottawa I would say a lot of the sports radio guys on 1200 (their FAN 960) think that Ottawa is going to make some kinda move largely because they have their core locked down for the next two runs until Batherson and Zub are up for renewal. Giroux will sign for team friendly deals until he retires, he wants to play in his hometown. Their window if they have one is the next 2 years if the Brady is not re-signing in 2028.

Bennett was a higher rated draft pick coming out of juniors than Parekh.
