Seems to me the best option to clear congested bikepaths has already been suggested in this thread. Let off a bear banger as soon as you set out.
And hey, maybe that's the solution to junkie filled train stations too.

Ok, so lets look at how it works...

Ah, so it's a data crunching exercise that doesn't actual take into account real world experiences of users. No amount of computer generated scoring is going to tell you the issues I and others have already presented. Saying "everything is fine" is just an excuse not do to anything except spend hundreds of millions more on roads.

What in the goddamned wide, wide world of Sports is going on in here?
There are no Bears or Horses mainlining heroin, crack or fentanyl at the c-train stations! (Yet!)
Are there junkies on mountain pathways? How do they get there now that Greyhound is gone?
Bears are cool, Dogs are the best, Horses suck but the people who own Horses suck even more, they are the scum of the Earth.
Christ on a cracker we need training camp to start...this nonsense is getting out of hand.
A thread about junkies has covered the gamut between scooters, e-bikes, horses, bears and God only knows what else.
I never thought this would happen and yet...here we are.

What if we gave the meth addicts jobs widening the bike paths? Maybe all they need is some fresh air, exercise, and Fuzz yelling "Do you even bike, bro?" at them to motivate them to become productive, browse-CP-during-the-work-day citizens!

20 per cent of the score is made up of user survey results. Maybe other Calgary cyclists have enough perspective to realize that for all its faults, we have a great system.
The bike system’s not perfect. Of course it has has issues. Every bike system in the world does. Just as every road system in the world does. Nobody is going around remarking how the transportation infrastructure in their community is superb and beyond improvement.
But for Calgary’s pathway system to be “embarrassing”, Calgarians would need to be genuinely embarrassed when people come here from other cities and use it. And that’s simply not true. I used to run bike tours out of the Calgary Youth Hostel, and travellers were impressed at how extensive and practical the pathways are. They were astonished that they could get on a bike at the hostel, 10 minutes later be riding through parks along the Elbow, 15 minutes after that on the Glenmore Dam, and 20 minutes after that in Weasel Head - all while spending 90+ per cent of the route on dedicated paths. You simply can’t do that in almost any other city in North America.
I get it - you hate the city’s spending priorities and wish more money were spent on cycling infrastructure. But you’d feel the same way if you lived in Vancouver, or Denver, or Phoenix, or Winnipeg, Toronto, Chicago, Indianapolis, etc. etc. etc. I guess they’re all embarrassing too.

I dont know anything about E-Bikes or the people who would lower themselves to that level.
But if you want to be a cyclist but just cant hack 'The Lifestyle' then you've gotta be down there in the social order.
Cyclists are bad enough, cyclists who dont want to 'put in the work' must be worse. Its just linear reasoning.

One day...there shall be war!
The Cyclists vs. The E-Bikeists vs. The Equestrians
The Dogs and the Bears will sit on the sidelines waiting to wipe out the victors.
But the Bears always win. They always win...
As long as the cyclists lose....we all win.

Some of us just like e-bikes because they are cool tech. Rather like some cyclists I know that think some obscure, ridiculously-expensive shifters are cool. Others dgaf and just want to ride without making it a lifestyle.

Why is it so bad to want them to do better? And I was talking about pathway improvements for all users, not just cyclists.
Like, you can't seriously tell me this is fine:
https://goo.gl/maps/xaEkGqC67hcLqBai8
Done by someone who considered the needs of all users then says, ya, #### it, toss that light post right there, on an extremely busy section of important pathway.
Even someone putting the bare minimum of brain power into this would have put the light post on the left of the road or found some other solution that isn't this. No, no, you're right, we shouldn't expect better. This is just perfect.

The junkie situation has created more space on transit so we just need to move some of them to hang around bike lanes and before long it’ll be riding like Kramer on a double wide highway.
