Maybe it’s hard for anyone to care that a couple of older men are scared to ride the train? Toughen up boys, and stop using imaginary 14 year old girls as your cover.

You just voted in a party that put an anti-abortion activist in charge of healthcare. What do you care about the health and safety of young women?

Out of curiosity, anybody know the injury and mortality rates related to pregnancy among teenage women as well as the injury and mortality rate among female public transit users aged 13-17?

I was going to say we wouldn’t want Doctorfever to have to stop pretending he cares about young women so quickly, but it’s not like this would be the first stat he ignored or twisted around if it doesn’t confirm perfectly to his worldview.
But don’t worry everyone, stats don’t matter because you don’t have daughters.

I thought you would say that. You can say whatever you want about your made up stats and this and that. But if you never get to have a little girl call you daddy, you have truly missed out. Best thing that can ever happen to anyone. So I wouldn’t say it’s nothing.

Most of this post is surreal and I read it like it was my friend’s dad from the old world, drunk on home-made Hungarian fruit brandy, trying to give relationship advice to teenagers. He would also say “this and that” a lot.
But what made up stats are you talking about? Like numbers obtained from reliable sources are “made up”?

Not sure what the made up stats say.

Keep dragging the thread down. I never made up any stats.

I have a daughter and I can say I don’t give a #### about transit safety stats. But I do want her to have access to readily available abortion services and any party that is against that is pretty obviously not a party that supports the health needs of my daughter.

Okay, then let’s see them.
Here are some stats on public safety on transit.
Quote:
The survey of 1550 people in Toronto also found that feelings of safety are impacted by gender and race. 27% of people said they feel unsafe taking public transit. Women were more likely to feel unsafe (30%) than men (23%). This was further impacted by race. Racialized men were more likely to feel unsafe (26%) than white men (19%). Racialized women were more likely to feel unsafe (28%) than white women (23%).
The mode and time of travel also impact how safe a rider feels. The subway was the type of transit where people felt most unsafe when compared to streetcar or bus. Riders also felt more unsafe when travelling in the evening or at night. At night, 57% of men felt very safe or safe, compared to 39% of women.
Public transit riders use various tactics to cope with feeling unsafe, and women are more likely than men to do so. Women said they were often on high alert (59%), used their phone to avoid unwanted attention (46%), avoided public transit in the dark (38%), got off at an earlier stop (37%), traveled with others (32%), or decided not to take a trip at all and stay home (16%) to avoid harassment or feeling unsafe.
The proportion of Torontonians who don’t feel safe taking public transit is alarmingly high,” says Demetre Eliopoulos, Senior Vice President, Public Affairs at the Angus Reid Group, “The fact that women are adapting their travel behaviour in so many ways, to the point where some are just opting to stay home, indicates that there is a fundamental accessibility issue at play here.”
|
So white men are the least likely to feel unsafe using public transit. They’re also the least likely to use public transit full-stop.
Women using transit at night are typically working-class and returning from work or school. Most take transit because they don’t have a choice. Most of them do not feel safe.
A bunch of middle-class white dudes are dismissing those fears as a nothing-burger. Not a great look.

I have a daughter and I'm concerned about both. It doesn't seem like it's got to be one or the other?

So should all the people he baits into responding.
One of the most useful internet skills you can learn is when to just ignore someone and their attention-seeking trolling.

Whereas this is admirable and high-quality dialogue?

Can we stop pretending that it’s Yoho’s posting style that makes people around here so mad? Many regular posters are far more antagonistic, sneering, and dismissive than he is. The only difference is Yoho expresses less popular opinions.

The subtle beauty here is that post is a direct reference to a couple different Yoho posts, including pulling some of the exact same wording. So when trying to point out that Yoho isn’t the only problem, you’re pointing to Yoho being the other problem
If you’re going to make me read through your contrarian diatribes about how great nazi’s were, the least you could do is have a sense of humour and appreciate the true art of posting when you see it.

A survey of peoples feelings is maybe the kind of made-up stats DF was talking about.
After so much exaggerated negative sensationalism over a non-sensational amount of actual crime, a poll is taken of feelings over transit safety.

Tbh this just makes a case to have Women-only cars like in Asia.
If you weren't aware, this sentiment from women isn't related to crime-rates or drug-use specifically, it's related to the fact that men in general are ####ty and terrible to be stuck on a hollow tube with for extended periods of time
