True (quoting not working). This year seems to have a lot of murmurers of goaltenders being available. If I were NJ I'd take a chance on Binnington over Markstrom, but that's more based around age specifically.

What did Noodles say on Barn Burner that he felt Markstrom with retention was worth? Two 1sts plus something?
I like what he is smoking.

As no great Markstrom fan, Marky has been considerably more consistent than Binnington, and he’s signed for a year less at the same cap.,
Anyone who’s interested in Binnington should have Markstrom as their primary target.

Markstrom for Jack Hughes. NJ gets their #1 goalie and frees up cap space, Calgary gets an overpaid middling-six player looking to regain his scoring touch.
C'mon NJ, do it you cowards!

You’ve also got John Gibson in the mix

As someone who has watched Markstrom extensively (like most here) we all know how wildly inconsistent he can be.
Hoping for some huge package seems really unrealistic no matter how thin the goalie market is at the moment.

Plus Binnington's a bigger potential locker room disaster. Even whne playing poorly, Markstrom seems to be a decent teammate.

.904 save % or better 7 of the last 8 years , and .910 or better in 6 of those.
Seems consistent enough, given who he was playing for.

I would argue Markstrom is having his bounceback. Especially with his recent play post hand injury.
Now 16th in league with goals saved above expected. Just above Sorokin and just below Ullmark.

Although I have not seen stats to back it up. The key for Markstrom is to not overplay him. Having Vanacek or Schmid as a capable backup insures that for NJ.
One of Vladar or Markstrom has to go before next season. Makes no sense to keep Wolf in AHL another year. He needs starts to build his NHL game.

I want to see Markstrom traded but I think it will end up being Vladar at the deadline.
I can see the Flames getting a 2nd round pick for Vladar similar to Berra many years ago.

Fair. I just don't like Markstrom's bad goals. They're totally amateur and can be a letdown when they happen every other game. It kills his confidence for that game and also let's down the team's confidence as well. Plus the playoffs the past couple years has been atrocious. So I'm not convinced his confidence is back.

Every goalie lets in bad goals.
The mark of good ones is that bad goals don’t ruin the rest of their night/season/career.
Markstrom is a veteran All-Star calibre goalie who has, with rare exceptions, spent his entire career on middling to awful teams.
Put him on the Devils and he’s an immediate upgrade to a team that’s loaded up front, loaded on D, and has question marks in net.
Goalie is the one position where youth is not preferable because young men haven’t seen enough of the NHL to be counted on when you get down to the final four or eight teams, and young men are notoriously immature.
When every team has multiple guys who can do things a young goalie has never seen, and when every team plays at a speed they’ve never encountered, with the stakes of playoff hockey, you need a adult at that position.

There is not even the smallest possibility that Wolf is in the A next year as he will no longer be waiver-exempt. He would 100% be picked up by another team if he was put on waivers.

when looking at Markstom you have to factor in that he has played the majority of his career with bottom half caliber teams

If we can get a 2nd round pick for Vladar, jump on it.
He’s been terrible this season, and trending down. Not sure what team would see him as am improvement.
And with him signed for next year, he carries continuing cap.

Jake Allen is also available.
If the price on Marky is too high, I would expect them to call Boston about one of their goalies. Swayman is due a hefty raise and that might be a better direction at this point.

one could infer his stats would be better had he been on a better team more often. I'm almost certain Markstrom would look REALLY good on a Colorado ect.
When the Flames actually played half decent in front of him he was a top 3 goalie
I don't think there are many goalies that would have had his numbers in Vancouver...I mean you can compare him and Demko that last season, Markstom was way better.
