They've outscored opponents 162 - 92, with an average margin of victory of 14 points. How is that "closely contested?" The other thing to note is that the offenses they've faced were at the time considered some of the best in the country and 3 out of 5 times have been held under 20 points.
|
The last 3 games have been closely contested and the score from last year was not idicative of how close the game was. The game this year coudl have easily gone either way and the Florida-Oklahoma game was close as well.
Just using the scores without taking into account what actually happened in the game isn't very useful.

The score in last year's game flattered Texas (to be fair they were using their backup QB). Florida/Oklahoma was sort of close but Florida pretty emphatically pulled away in the 4th quarter. LSU/OSU and Florida/OSU were blowouts. Another stat to note is that in 4/5 wins SEC teams have never lost a lead.

But that Oklahoma team broke all sorts of scoring records and was the best offensive team ever!!!
Oh the Auburn fans were paying serious money like 8K for a single ticket to go to the game. I've said it before, Oregon is a great school and a good football program but they and the rest of the pac 10 cant compare to football in the south.

Good move on his part, with Luck not entering the draft, he'll be the first QB picked.
Wilbon said he looks a lot like Big Ben. I don't remember Ben's college years (he played in a nothing program so he was probably never on TV) but i can see it just from an evade the rush shake off the tackler perspective. His arm strength is pretty good.
Question is, will he become a Big Ben, or a Vince Young. I guess it depends what franchise he goes to.

Maybe I should put an up to in that post.
doesn't matter, both teams were good and I've heard about how great Oregon following was and on the biggest stage their fan base was playing second fiddle.
It really doesn't matter when they are paying 3k for a single ticket and their season tickets to all the home games for two are probably no more than 600. (yes six hundred)...

Mallett crumbles faster than Stortini hugs in a fight when he is pressured. I think Ryan has 1st round talent but a 3rd round brain.

Oregon following was ok, but Auburn was unreal, best, largest, loudest fans I've ever come across. As we were leaving the game we must have walked by 1000 auburn fans walking towards the stadium who ended up watching in glendale because they couldn't get a ticket ... never seen that before.

Just my 0.02 on the SEC versus other conferences. It's hard not to laugh at the argument that the SEC isn't miles ahead of all others, simply because despite the fact they have won 5 championships in a row a couple of them were close.
SEC is the best conference by a wide margin, and if anything that margin is increasing.

I find this comment puzzling because despite having the National Champion this was clearly a down year for the SEC. There was some good upper echelon teams in Auburn, Arkansas, LSU, and Alabama, but after that it was a whole lot of mediocrity (who's records look better than they are because of 3/4 non conference games for SEC teams are always some of the weakest 1-A schools and a 1-AA school).
Oh and Gabbert will very likely be the 1st QB off the board unless something major happens at the combine.

Season tickets might be $600, but unless Auburn is different than virtually every program in the country you have to donate a pretty considerable sum to get the rights to buy season tickets, at least for the decent seats.

How did it flatter Texas? We were within 4 at one point in the 4th quarter with our backup. I am not one of those fans that thinks we would have won with McCoy (although no doubt we would have had a better chance), but Texas was in that game until the last 7 minutes.

I was a big Mallett booster at the beginning of the year, but Gabbert really impressed me as the year went on.

a couple of mid level teams took a step back such as UT however i'll take SEC's top 4 vs any top 4. Yes 2010 was maybe a bit of a down year across the board however if you think of SEC vs others now vs say 5 or 10 years ago they seem more dominant now than in the past.

Yeah, but Texas didn't really do much for most of the second half. I noted that not having McCoy was a big blow and they did well despite not having him, but I thought Bama let their foot off the pedal towards the end, and then salted it when they needed to.

So are 95% of the rest of the AQ BCS conferences. Most of them play a slack team in their OOC.
