If they play the big 2 apart, I don't see either of their top 2 lines being that great and they will rely on the PP to score. Eventually they will resort to Leon on the top line and try to out score their opponent.
Who matches up against the top line, especially on the road? Ryan isn't great but he is reliable. Can't imagine being comfortable throwing out Mcleod to match up against guys like Mackinnon. Our top line would eat up their checking line but Backlund has good numbers against McDavid in his career.
This doesn't factor in how bad their d is and the questions they have in net.
IMO they are worse once the cap stuff settles in.
It will also be interesting to see how they manage minor injuries? The game time decision that aren't IR type injuries.

To help with the cap I see Holloway in the AHL. So it's Benson as the first line LW....

Kane-McDavid-Yamamoto had great results 5 on 5 last regular season.

Maybe, or maybe the Oilers wreck another one.

That's not very good when you have one of the worst bottom 6 after guys start getting waived to make cap space.

all the Kings had to do was win a period and we would be done with this Oilers/contender nonsense

If we're being honest, their forward group really looks like this:
Draisaitl - McDavid - Kane
RNH - Draisaitl - Hyman
Foegele - McDavid - Yamamoto
Draisaitl - McDavid - Ryan/Malone/McKegg/Foegele

How will he get an 8x$10.5 in the AHL?

Here is McDavid's top line mates in minutes last year:
Puljujarvi 626
Hyman 535
Kane 434
Draisaitl 380
Yamamoto 358
Foegele 136
Zassian 131
Nuge 79
McLeod 65
Perlini 34
Benson 23
Ryan 22
9 different forwards with at least 60 mins. Every player on the list is better with him than without. It appears coaches are struggling to find someone that plays with McDavid that makes McDavid better. Leon is the only player that really does that. This is why they always load up come playoff time

Not sure who will be on the second line with Draisaitl, but last season he had 53.75% goal share away from McDavid. That's not bad. Draisaitl is one of those guys like Patrick Kane or Huberdeau that usually have mediocre possession stats, but tend to outscore the opposition anyway.
If you compare Draisail's 53.75% to other second line centers I think it compares alright. Kadri for instance had 52.56% goal share away from Mackinnon/Rantanen last year.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Two things
1. Of course he was going to make the team. Its the Oilers. Never a doubt.
2. Woodcroft has a word of the day calendar.

But some suggest that Leon is a top 5 player in the league. Some say he's better than MacKinnon or Matthews. If he's comparable to other 2nd line centers that isn't good enough for a team that has no depth.

MacKinnon and Matthews play all of their minutes with star line mates.
Should Draisaitl be expected to match their goal shares while playing with the leftovers on a team with no depth?
Its kind of a catch-22 situation you've set up.

They have better linemates most nights but Oilers fans are selling better depth with guys like Hyman and Kane on the team. It's not like Leon is playing with Foegele and Kassian every night last year either.
All I'm saying is Leon's line is good but not great. If it's just a good line with Hyman and Yamaoto then that bottom 6 becomes a problem. If the Oilers had a good 3rd line then his line being a good 2nd line might be all that is needed with McDavid on the top line.
The Oilers lack of depth, they can't afford Leon's line to be good. They need a Malkin and Crosby scenario.
