Very unlikely that either will bust. Too unlikely to even discuss.
Depends what you mean by 'bust'. If one of them ended up as a solid 2nd/3rd liner than played 1000 NHL games but 'only' got 500 points, would that be considered a bust?
Columbus GM Jarmo Kekalainen is quietly investigating what it might take to do what Brian Burke did in 1999, when he secured both of the Sedin brothers with the No. 2 and 3 selections. Columbus would have to have one of the top three picks, and find a way to trade for another.
That's a dream scenario for sure. Laine on LW and Pullujarvi on RW. Who was their C at the WJHC? If I was Columbus, I'd trade anyone on my team to make that happen.

I think the Flames have better assets to do this, but it would be a hefty price. This would perfectly solve our RW dilemma.

Sebastian Aho, who is one of the best forwards in Finland this season and the top scorer in the playoffs at the moment. A really good second round pick by Carolina last year. A lot tougher to trade for now than just a few months ago.
Really shows how much difference a year makes in a player's development if you compare him to the much more highly rated Laine and Puljujärvi.
The Flames have Gaudreau, Monahan and Bennett. They don't need to desperately go fishing for a top line in one draft. Matthews, Laine, Puljujarvi, Tkachuk, Dubois... any of those will be fantastic additions to our three.
Hopefully we get the Stars 1st, some really interesting players to add to that group. Riley Tufte or Max Jones are two of my favs.
Matthews is a franchise changer for Calgary and I think turns them immediately into a playoff team. He is going to be 19 before the puck drops next season and has the ability to make an impact in his rookie year.
If the Flames get Matthews they have 3 amazing pairs to build lines around
Monahan-Gaudreau - they will be the high paid franchise cornerstones that will look to lead the offense for a third straight year. Both on the young stars team this duo is poised for continued success. The RW thst plays with them would have to come from outside the organization. Potentially an RFA like Hayes would be a great fit
Bennett-Matthews - this pairing would include the 2 highest picks in Calgary Flames franchise history. A 20 and 19 year old with sky high potential could be sheltered and given some easier matchups which could result in the pair feasting on weaker opposition. Colborne, Porier, Shinkaruk, Ferland or someone from the outside would all be potential candidates to play on this line
Backlund-Frolik - 2 very solid 200ft players that can possess the puck, and score at a decent rate. These guys anchor a 3rd line that would go against tough competition. Likely Bouma would ride shotgun with these guys

So if the Flames pick ends up in the 9-10 range should the Flames maybe put it on the table for Drouin?
Or even package something with it and try to get Bishop along with Drouin?
Has Drouin done anything proving he is better than any of the top ten other than be picked high in his draft year? It's an honest question. IDC if he scored 500 points in his draft year, he hasn't really opened anyones eyes up since turning pro.

IDK I think Drouin has a higher ceiling than lots of the guys in this draft. Problem is if he isn't scoring he's not helping your team much. For a team like the Flames I really think they are going to go with a versatile forward who can do more then just score, or a high ceiling defenceman.
So I personally would take Drouin over Nylander, but not Dubois/Tkachuk/Mcleod/Sergachev/Chychrun or the top 3 obviously.

Well sportsclubstats says we have an 87.472% chance of finishing bottom 6 right now. I'm not sure how our pick can end up in the 9-10 range realistically anymore.
Good news everyone! Unless we run the table we're pretty much assured of picking top 8. There's a clearcut top 9 to me at the moment, no idea if the Flames see it the same way. But if I was a betting man I would think we'll get one of the following nine players; Matthews, Laine, Puljujarvi, Tkachuk, Dubois, Chychrun, Sergachev, Juolevi, or Nylander. Personally I wouldn't trade any of those guys for Drouin right now.

You would take Drouin over possibly the most talented player skill wise in the draft who is also a RS RW? Why?
I would take Dubois before Nylander due to his size and other intangibles but no way would I take any of the other guys you listed ahead of Nylander.
