They absolutely have slowed down already.
Their defense minister has also publicly said that if the central bank doesn't lower the interest rates (currently at 21%), the Russian defense industry could go bankrupt.
As far as obvious signs of big trouble, that kind of open internal conflict is to me rather obvious.
Of course most of western media has ignored all of it, because US presidential election coverage just rolled over everything else.

I get the need for high interest rates to keep the borrow train rolling. It's nuts how much they have to promise, it shows what investors think of the Russian economy.
Mind giving an ELI5 on how do these rates harm the defense industry? I'm thinking international procurement difficulties but not sure.

Given Russian escalation, maybe NATO should be in this war. Maybe it's time to give Russia the smackdown so they stop pulling this ####.

Biden sending Ukraine anti-personnel land mines
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cx2d1lj3nwqo
Quote:
For Ukraine's forces trying to halt Russian advances up and down the long front line in the east, mines are vital.
Russia's tactics currently involve sending small groups of soldiers - sometimes no more than three to five men - to walk or ride motorbikes behind Ukrainian positions. These men are often killed or captured.
However, in besieged towns like Chasiv Yar and Kurakhove, Ukrainian analysts say squads will sometimes be sent out every 20 minutes for hours at a time, creating problems for Ukrainian troops.
"It's very difficult to deal with," Serhiy Kuzan from the Ukrainian Security and Cooperation Centre told the BBC.
"We need more anti-personnel mines."
Much of the fighting is taking place in rural parts of the Donbas, wooded areas between huge open areas of farmland.
With much of the civilian population already evacuated, Ukraine argues that the tactical use of "non-persistent" mines poses minimal risk to civilians and is absolutely essential to stem Russia's
advance.
Russia has deployed landmines liberally since the start of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 but international objections to the use of such weapons on the grounds that they pose a risk to civilians had prevented the Biden administration from signing off on them.
The US defence official confirmed to the BBC that Ukraine had pledged to use only mines that remained active for a limited period of time.

Obama banned the US from using or transferring Anti-personnel landmines outside the Korean peninsula.
Trump reversed that policy and Biden re-instated it.
Biden has now reversed it again.
It looks like Biden is trying to setup Ukraine to be in the best position possible when Trump takes over.

I am curious about the implications of the cables that were sabotaged between Lithuania and Sweden. From what I read, it caused internet problems in both countries and will be expensive to fix. But is there a greater strategical reason to do it? Like if a war between NATO and Russia did break out, would not having those cables functioning give Russia a strategic advantage, or is this sort of thing just petty stuff meant to antagonize and annoy?
I honestly am little more disturbed about the reports earlier in the year that they were developing weapons specifically to take out satellites, and then their explicit threat about a week ago to use them. That could really mess things up for everyone.

Russians used an ICBM with conventional munitions on Dnipro today as a show of force. This would be the first use of an intercontinental ballistic missile in history.
3 Day special military operation on track on Day 1,002.

It sounds like U.S. officials are denying it was an ICBM, but rather an experimental medium range ballistic missile. It would be troubling if it was an ICBM and they couldn't detect it. Of course I wouldn't expect them to acknowledge anything either.

It's being reported by Russia as well that the missile is a new intermediate range missile capable of traveling 3 km/s, so the U.S. and Russia saying the same thing. To be fair to Zelenskyy, he said the missile showed "characteristics of an ICBM", and other people seemed to run with it actually being an ICBM. At this point, I don't think it matters. An ICBM can travel faster, but also flies higher and is easier to notice after launch because of that. They don't need the range to hit Ukraine.
The U.S. is also saying that they knew about the weapon and that Russia was likely going to use it in retaliation, and gave Ukraine a few days notice to prepare. They also said that they are sending "hundreds" of more missiles to Ukraine.

The patriot missiles do this, just need more. It would really be something if Ukraine received THAAD systems.

My understanding is that Patriot only hits short-range ballistic missiles. Arrow 3? GBI?
