Kadri for Newhook as the base? Maybe slight add from us (2nd? MEP?) for contracts?
Colorado didn't want to sign him to a contract last offseason. I bet they go hard after Lindholm or Backlund

Kadri is likely to have some bounce back without Sutter.
I'd still like to trade him, but timing might be better to wait until the season is going.

Kadri was a disaster by the end of the year, but early on, he was arguably our best player (or at least forward). I think there is a very good chance for a bounce back year.

I don’t think it is a dick move as both players would have to waive to make it happen. I thought with Kadri a new GM makes it easier and Kadri would sign off if Sutter was staying. Now he would probably more inclined to stay considering Maloney says this team is in win now and there is potentially a new rink coming in 3-4 years so maybe Kadri would rather stay here for the duration of his deal?

Horvat got paid huge and basically got an extra 1.5M AAV based on his hot start to this season and the Islanders wanting to justify the trade they overpaid which is not that different to the Flames with Huberdeau/Weegar.

I agree it is far fetched and unlikely but I do think it makes some sense for both parties and could justify it in that regard.

Gaudreau left and everything went to crap. This is tree fault should have locked him up before losing him for nothing
but he lowballed jonny 2 years ago. This team needs to retool Kadri, hubby are overpaid horrible contracts that will haunt this franchise for years to come.

It probably is far fetched, but could be some merit to it. Horvat brings more skill and Kadri more grit, that serves both teams pretty well.

Would Lou revisit acquiring Kadri if he could offload Horvat? Flames take on 2 years term and 1.5M more in cap hit but get a guy 4 years younger.
I doubt the islanders would do it, simply for the same reasons why Calgary would do it.

Horvat had a bad two months in NY, Kadri had a bad year in Calgary.

Being 4 years younger makes him a much better bounce back candidate than Kadri.

That's also not really true. The rumour was they weren't willing to go above a 6x4 contract. They could have moved out Compher and Eller and signed him.

Miller for Kadri would be the only swap that would make sense contract wise.

Contract wise, yes. But Miller had a very good year.

Yeah, he was almost dumped at the deadline apparently. Not sure Vancouver would sign up for another problem child in Kadri though

Absolute brutal showing by Laff in the playoffs here, any desire in trying to land him for a fresh start?

Nope, at least not for any type of "real" asset.
The guy was over hyped in his draft year, should have never went 1st OA.
Yakupov vibes from him, he's not progressing at all at the NHL level.

When does he start getting called Alexis Daigle or Alexandre Lafreniere? Really busting it up in New York. Could be just wrong place at wrong time though. Kaapo Kakko hasn't exactly been a machine either.

TBH, if you could snag either of them for a middling prospect (anything not named Zary, Pelletier, Coronato, Wolf, or Poirier) I would roll the dice on them.

Weird draft where neither the first nor second OA pick are really doing much relative to their draft position. The development path for a lot of guys post-draft was also super strange with COVID.

Still fairly early and I think both guys are NHL players, but would Lafreniere or Byfield go top 10 in a redraft? So far, I doubt it.

I actually like Kakko, but Laf is still too slow for the NHL.

Boston will be shopping for centers if Bergeron and Krejci retire. I bet Backlund would extend there.
