It is a 3-for-1 deal Norris, Labourt and Boyd for Price. #Tigers #Bluejays

Paul Beeston is retiring after this season. That's his policy, not AA's.

Huge not to give up Alford in the deal. He is looking like a stud this year.

The good news is that even if the prospect cupboard is cleared out, you can always draft more. It might not even matter for another 3-4 years if you can re-sign Price and find another capable starter or two on the open market.
Think about it. IF they can sign Price long term, they already have Hutchison who is a decent 3-4 starter, and Stroman who is probably a #2 after Price. That's most of the rotation filled out and you can find 4th and 5th starters relatively easily on the open market. Plus, Osuna and Sanchez could still be developed into starters. The future isn't as dire as you think, but they should definitely attempt to re-sign Price long term as their ace. They really haven't had one since Halladay.

Whew. That's not to bad. Still pricey considerig the lack of team control but it could hae been worse.

Yeah at least alford stays.
So do they go for one more lower cost starter? Now that they are all in and Hutchinson has been dog crap... Or go with three solid guys, hope estrada can keep up the magic and trot hutch out every 5th day hoping your offence scores 6?

I'm conflicted. On one hand this is friggin awesome. On the other hand, the Jays are probably going to be really bad 3-4 years from now. Maybe it's not that simple but I'm not optimistic given what remains on the farm and the age of the team right now. All in I guess, this is far more entertaining than any season I can remember recently though and that's what sports is about. I just really hope they can parlay these moves into a playoff spot otherwise this was kind of pointless.
They are going to have to sign 2-3 FA next summer for the rotation though. As long as Rogers opens the purse strings and we get lucky and guys choose us (losing the 5 year term would be huge) we might actually be okay.

They could draft/find gems 3-4 years from now. With Tulo locked up this team cannot be bad. This season just got a lot more fun.

The rumor is that AA had a 7 year deal in place for Annibal Sanchez a couple off-seasons ago, but Beeston vetoed it. He eventually signed with the Tigers and put up a 5.9 WAR season.

First of all, that's not a given. Baseball is rarely a sport that relies solely on prospects for team development. Even so, all teams go through cycles of being good and bad. Let me ask you this: If the Jays are very successful for the next 3-4 years, make the playoffs each year, and win a world series somewhere in there, will it be worth it? Yes, IMO.

Hutch has been really good at home (god know why but he has). I think you stick with him and just try to manage the schedule around that a bit.

Mark Langston for Randy Johnson. And the 1989 Expos finished .500.
But the truth is, Bautista and Encarnacion are getting older, and we didn't bring guys like Martin in to lead a rebuild. Even though the prospect pool is getting decimated, it makes sense to go for it.

So if they can convince Price to stay then the Jays have a pretty good core.
Position:
Donaldson
Tulowitzky
Bautista
Martin
Travis
Pillar
Starting Pitchers:
Price
Stroman
Hutchinson
Sanchez
If they could move Encarnacion to add a 3/4 pitcher, or a good pitching prospect then this team is in even better shape.

I'm just glad the Jays gave up pitching prospects in these deals and not guys like Pompey or Alford. I know our rotation is mediocre now, but pitching prospects are so volatile that you can't bank on any of them turning out. The Jays have had great pitching prospect depth for years now without having high draft picks - I'm sure AA and the scouting staff can find a way to do it again after emptying the cupboards.

IMO you dont want Sanchez starting. He walks to many guys and doesn't strike out enough. I wouldn't mind seeing Osuna get a go at the rotation... reports are he has good secondary offerings.

I agree nothing is given or guaranteed. I'm happy about this move to be honest, I've always wanted Price in TO. I'm just saying there's no way someone can look at the Jays current prospects and say "now there's a team with a great future".
A lot can change, as you said. Maybe they hit their draft picks out of the park over the next few years and we're laughing. Not really thinking about it too much, I just really want them to make the playoffs now to make it worth it.

I'm so happy that I don't have to read any more alerts about the Blue Jays interested in so and so pitcher!
Great move if finalized. It'll make a great chase for the playoffs these next couple of months.
