Keep in mind that Martin gets a big raise, Donaldson will get a big raise, all the other arb eligible guys get a smaller raise, and the CDN dollar will be lower (so the Jays budget may go down). That eats up a lot of money.
Plus a bunch of other teams will be offering him $$.
That's a huge gamble considering the Jays are at .500.

Confirmed: The #BlueJays land the big fish, #Tigers ace David Price, for Norris and other prospects.

Yikes, glad they got a pitcher but that's a huge price to pay for potentially 3 months of baseball.
Making a push I guess.

Hopefully Bautista doesn't complain to the media anymore about what the team still needs. Should send a clear message to every player in that clubhouse that management and ownership are all in.

It is a huge gamble, but the Jays haven't made the playoffs in 22 years. They haven't even had relevant games in September in probably 15 years. You have to do something bold to shake things up once in awhile. At least give the fans a reason to keep coming to the ball park.

Me too, I mean... make no mistake about it I think Price is a hell of a pitcher and if the Jays can get him to stay then it's totally worth it. I just fear what it does to the longterm health of the club otherwise.

Syndergard, Nicolino, Hoffman, Norris. We've given up some great pitching prospects to get where we are. I sure hope this works out.

How many starts do they figure they can get out of Price?

That's just the tip of the iceberg... Deslafani would probably be the jays 2nd starter this year and Graveman would be a good 4 or 5.
At least Stroman and Sanchez are staying put.

The Jays policy on not exceeding 5 year contracts will hurt them. The Dodgers will offer $30M (Kershaw money) on a 7+ year contract with player opt out options to replace Grienke.
Jays will have to offer $35+M per on a 5 year deal to compete.

That's more Beeston's policy. He's out next year anyways so that policy likely goes with him. The bigger issue is the budget (and the turf and playing in Canada).

Prospect Anthony Alford is not in the David Price trade.
