I dont like it. Sorry...the guy is falling and trying to break his fall.

I think thats far more 'ball to hand' than 'hand to ball' and essentially a 'natural' position.

Thats baby-crap soft.

Kind of unlucky, but an obvious penalty.

How are Uruguay trying to argue this?

100% a handball and the hand was not in a natural position.

You don’t have to go to ground as a defender, his arm is taking up space, and that’s why it’s a handball.

So Uruguay employed the Mexican strategy, don't play until you're down.
First game 0-0, lose 2nd game 2-0.

Always a risk when you go to ground. I think it was the right call.

You can make arguments both ways but his hand is absolutely in a natural position breaking his fall.

What other position could it be in?

You'll get there eventually. Maybe. Doubtful.

ITV post match coverage with a small bit focusing on the pitch invader reading out what was on the front (Save Ukraine) and back (Respect for Iranian women) of his tshirt.

The argument lies here. Is the defender going to ground to stop an attack? In which case he's lost position and is vulnerable to fouling whether a player trips over him or his hand blocks space.

Or is he falling?

Does it matter? If you're falling are you SOL?

IMO he's going to the ground to make a tackle, and by doing that as a defender you immediately put yourself at risk.

To me a "natural position" is more when your hands are naturally by your side, or you're in a running motion.

In this scenario the defender is making a defensive move, he leaves his hand in a vulnerable position (even if it's required to make the tackle), and the hand is taking up space that you shouldn't be expecting his hand to take up as an attacker.

Fernandes makes a nice move to go through him and nutmegs him, his hand was unnaturally between his legs and you need to call that IMO.

Slippery slope if you stop calling those and say it's because the defender needs that arm to break his fall. To me I guess it can be 50/50 by the rule of the law but I think that one should be called.

Well apparently this image is straight from the book and it shouldn't be a penalty...

Once again I am conclusively and objectively correct.

Its hard being this right all the time. It is my burden to bare. And yes I did that intentionally.
