Gillies has the potential to be a star goalie (top 5 in the league good) if he gets a little quicker. Everyone had a really hard time beating him when they were shooting at him. The only easier way to score on him was to get him moving and hope that an opening got created.

A few thoughts from the scrimmage today, it was hard to follow the action while checking the roster sheet for numbers so I tried to focus on certain players for a shift. I will try and add some players that haven't been talked about as much.
Monohan & Gaudreau-Its all been said before these two were creative and all business.
Granlund-his shot has a pro release and was very impressive today
Jorris- This guy had me checking my roster to see who #86 was. A very creative playmaking centre who had a great game in all zones. Great to see a try out player take advantage of his opportunity.
Padakin-I thought this Hitmen invitee played a strong 2 way game by blocking some shots from the point. I would have liked to see a bit more offence from him.
Ferland-Ive read positive reviews posted but I honestly cant see why. I thought he was invisible, for a guy with his size and experience he should have been a force in the game but didn't deliver.
Hanowski-He looked a step behind to me the whole game and not up to the skill of the other players. I hope he can improve but does not look close to NHL caliber.
Penner-Nice shot but had trouble keeping up to the pace of the game.
Elson-This player really impressed me, he was all over the ice winning puck battles and being creative with the puck. I will be interested to see what kind of season he has in the AHL
Agostino-i was excited to see him play from the reviews of the first game but I only saw flashes although he does seem to be very skilled
Jankowski-Ive been trying to figure what I think of Mark. The third period was his best but he seemed to get beat on a lot of puck battles thru the game. A lot has said he finds open ice to wait for the pass but like Iggy he seems to be at his best when he is involved in the play rather than waiting for the puck to come to him. He needs to find consistent intensity in his game to be the force we all hope he becomes.
Im very excited about the Flames D prospects Wotherspoon, Ramage, Sieloff and Kanzig who all looked really solid.
These are a few of my thoughts from the scrimmage today and thanks to everyone who posted updates from the other days of camp.

And to take this further, if I wasn't such a trusting and simple-minded individual, I'd be thinking that the organization is being a little mischievous in its own right. Kristin sure is asking many questions like "how awesome is it to see all these fans excited about you?" and "what is your favourite thing about Calgary?" and "how awesome is it that all these people are asking for your autograph?" etc...
Don't get me wrong, it suits me just fine. These are largely 18-21 year old kids and amplifying the impression that everyone is excited about them is a good strategy. I'd be doing the same thing if I was in the organization's shoes.
My only lament is how long it took this organization to realize that the fans do indeed care about the prospects, even if our previous prospect rosters were weak. The organization could have used the fans' enthusiasm to its advantage for many years now.

Can't wait to see "Jean Monadreau" in full beast mode ripping up the big league for us in a year, 2 tops.
You can already see the beginnings of something there. Their playing styles and smartts just compliment each other so well. Sean pick-pockets somebody in the defensive zone, finds Johnny instantly and he's off to the races. Then he makes some beauty dangles in deep, gets himself free of any d-man tailing him in the corner and feeds it off to Sean again for the bang in. Just awesome.

Flames decided not to offer him a contract after his two years were up.
He re entered the draft (2012) and nobody took him.
He then played out his over age year in the WHL, and it looks like he'll be playing in OKC next season for the Barons. Must have gotten an AHL deal or something.

I believe he is currently playing at the Oilers development camp on a tryout.
EDIT - Apparently he has signed an AHL deal with the Oklahoma City Barons

I can't believe there are people mad at Harrison. He's a defencemen and the scrimmages just aren't for forwards to deke around pylons. The defencemen need to play their games as well and hitting is part of that.
If they wanted the forwards to skate around pylons they would have invited Butler.

Over the next few days I'll be doing a more in depth profile on each player based on this week's efforts and other viewings (training camps etc)
For guys that I haven't watched before like Harrison, I'll just base it off this week

And I'm an idiot because he's not a defencemen but my point still stands. Keep your head up.

Not arguing your point at all. I actually like Harrison a lot.
He's going to be our Matt Martin/Cal Clutterbuck. Freight Train coming through.

Lol wasn't referring to you, I actually didn't even see your post until after I replied. I knew Harrison was a forward but for some reason mixed him up with being a defencemen. Probably because the lack of sleep.
But out prospects have me excited because it'll be nice to have players showing effort instead of older players thinking the NHL owes them something.
I don't care how bad we are next season as long as we are the harder working team most nights.

Same. At first, it even looked like he could be a top goalie in the same conversation as Belfour and Roy. The Flames luck though.... Everything screwed up.

He's coming over and doesn't have a contract elsewhere. I think it has been reported on CP that he has an out-clause which allows him to return to Finland if he plays some number of games in the AHL.
For Finnish prospects, it seems spending time in the AHL has become a sign of failure. Barkov, Ristolainen and if it's true, Granlund all basically saying it's NHL or Finland. Smells of hubris, can't like that.
