Is there a glut of M.D. graduates without jobs? Layton keeps talking about hiring more doctors, but I'm pretty sure the limiting factor there is on the supply side, not the demand side.

That letter to the GG is a signed a agreement between the opposition leaders stating they would like to be asked to form a government if the Liberals lost a confidence vote. Close enough, if you're willing to acknowledge what it is. It is not an agreegement to force an election. It explicitly deals with what could happen if a confidence vote were to be lost.

He wants to find these professionals through immigration, I think?

he'll get them from other countries.
Layton has been a longtime supporter of allowing foreign credentials in Canada.

Guess they didn't want to talk about immigration and skills certification again.

In 2004 when Harper was putting together his coalition with Layton and Duceppe, Paul Martin and the Liberals were still more popular than the CPC. When Martin's minority government was eventually defeated in 2006, that was no longer the case, so it was more to Harper's advantage to fight an election campaign (which he won) than form a coalition government.

Didn't Layton get medical treatments at a wholly private facility?

Talk to the average street cop and you'll likely get a different opinion. It's almost completely useless because the guns that are the biggest concern are the illegal, unregistered ones which obviously, no registry is going to reflect. Add that fact to the enormous waste of money the gun registry has been and continues to be and it's a slam dunk. Get rid of it.

Come on Ignatieff, things are hardly as simple as you're trying to make it seem, you can't just cut funding at random and funnel it into health care.

Ignatieff lost his cool with Layton a bit there.

Ignatief came off pretty petty there with the "at least we get in government" comment.

As much as it's true Ignatieff shouldn't have gone off on Layton like that. At least it'd be hard to paint him as a cold fish. Layton kind of had it coming though.

I wonder... After the debate ends, will Layton have Ignatieff's balls bronzed? Made into a hunting trophy? Simply eat them outright?

Must be easy Gilles to fund a massive health program on the back of all the other provinces.
