If they can get away with it, and then sell their own product instead, that to me is better business than selling the same old gas. Sure its risky, but if it pans out they stand to make a lot more $$$.
Well, sure. Certainly not going to try and tell such a successful company how to run their business.
But, their 'stance' against Flash is stupid, considering how many people use it.
It would be like some guy with a hydrogen car saying how stupid gasoline is, when the fact is that hydrogen isn't currently a viable option.
Much like HTML5 is a GREAT idea, but not currently a viable option for the whole world.

Would not having belief that you have forsight into something becoming a viable source and investing in that route pay large dividends when it comes to pass? Buddy with the hydrogen car and the company that makes it would be in "on the ground floor" and save/make much $$$ when everyone else who missed the boat has to scramble to catch up.
Not to mention, aren't iPads and such capable of being modded to allow for flash?
Exactly! But then they could play Flash games instead of paying to download App versions of free Flash games.
The internet is full of Flash. Try planning a wedding on an iPad. Every freakin' photographer, DJ, caterer, venue, band, etc uses some stupid Flash template website. Yes, I said stupid. Flash websites generally suck, but the way to kill them is by competition, not removing choices. The floppy drive was killed by the CD-R and files bigger than 1.44 megs, not Apple taking away people's options. When people see good HTML5 websites, they'll migrate that direction and Flash will have to adapt or be left behind. But that's our choice, not one that should be made for us.
In addition to the world of weddings, restaurants are notoriously bad for using flash. I can't think of too many industries that would benefit more from having their website available on mobile web devices. Further, in very few instances (save for something like internet radio) is flash actually necessary. The idea that some people want a website that "pops" so badly that they're willing to render it inaccessible to a segment of their potential customers blows me away.
I expect flash to slowly die down. It won't die completely, but I have to imagine if I'm a business owner and somebody hands me an iPhone or an iPad to play around with, the first thing I'm going to check out is how my site looks on it.
Not trying to call anyone out, just trying to understand...
What's the mentality behind lining up for 4/8/12/24 hours before the store even opens to get an iPhone 4 or any other latest device that's a minor upgrade on what you currently have, seconds after it's launched?
I've never quite understood it. Your iPhone 3G/3GS was the greatest thing since sliced bread 3 months ago...

I'm on board with you if you have a 3GS (I personally don't think an upgrade from there is worth the hassle or $$), but if you're coming from a 3G the difference is quite substantial and not minor in any way. Apple has been pushing the operating system and every time they do it, the 3g falls further and further behind. In many cases it gets mind-bogglingly slow. A 3G from 3 months ago is not that great.
Just off the top of my head, from a 3G to a 4 you're getting a compass for better gps, an hd video recorder, an incredible camera, a gyro, massive screen upgrade, forward facing camera, iPad speed and a massive slash in thickness. If the USA sales numbers are any indication iPhone 4's could be a big pain in the ass to get for a while. People who line up may actually save themselves some running around in the long run (or it might just end up being a good way to skip work ... either way it's a win).

The truth of the matter, not that anyone is going to bother to listen, is that Flash is an external plugin for the browser, and it runs like a deep fried turd in OS X, so the likelihood of it running on iOS is pretty slim.
This is as much Adobe's fault as it is Apple's. If Adobe would build a decent product that wouldn't beat the living tar out of the OS, then it would probably be supported on iOS devices. Adobe dragged their heels on putting together a decent DESKTOP version of Flash for OS X (it still blows, btw) so why would Apple wait for Adobe to put together a half attempted mobile version that requires a new system update every time Flash is updated, AND makes the system run like crap, which everyone will blame on Apple.

See me leaving the bar at demo camp....

To each their own I guess. If those are high enough priorities to someone then have at it. IMO - it's a relatively minor upgrade in the grand scheme of things.
If I were in the market for an iPhone4, I'd probably just wait the weeks/months and get them to ship it directly to my doorstep. To me, it doesn't seem like something worth waiting in line for for a day so I can have a slightly better phone a few days earlier than other people.
