Wasn't there a thread where the Flash talk was debated ad nauseum? I am not saying it is without merit, but that I'm pretty sure we've been down this road before.

Sure like HTML5, however, HTML5, has not been finalized yet. So this is what I'm saying why completely lock out a web technology when its successor (and arguably so, since I'm pretty sure Flash is still great for things like games) has not even been finalized.
Why not make it disabled by default and if people feel the need to use it, to let them do so?

Yeah, and if Apple owned a bunch of 'gas stations'....it would be like them refusing to sell gas at the gas stations, despite the majority of cars still USING gasoline.

So basically what you're saying is... Apple caused the oil spill.

Exactly! But then they could play Flash games instead of paying to download App versions of free Flash games.
The internet is full of Flash. Try planning a wedding on an iPad. Every freakin' photographer, DJ, caterer, venue, band, etc uses some stupid Flash template website. Yes, I said stupid. Flash websites generally suck, but the way to kill them is by competition, not removing choices. The floppy drive was killed by the CD-R and files bigger than 1.44 megs, not Apple taking away people's options. When people see good HTML5 websites, they'll migrate that direction and Flash will have to adapt or be left behind. But that's our choice, not one that should be made for us.

Yeah, but if Apple's new car that ran on Orange Julius and the blood of 40-year old virgins was going to be cheaper/more efficient, then I would have incentive to buy it.

Indeed, as would I.
But we live in a global market, where there are still thousands of cars that would use gasoline, and it would be stupid of Apple to not sell gasoline at their gas stations. Even if they have a car that runs on the blood of Canuck fans.
I know the analogy is slightly different, but the point still stands.

If companies didn't invent stuff and then shove it down our throats, we'd all still be riding horses and using type-writers.

And the CD-R was killed by the DVD, which is cheaper and stores more on the same size disk. DVD is going to be killed by Blue-ray, and Blue-ray will be killed by online streaming, along with flash drives that already hold 100gigs plus.
If Flash sucks, it will be killed by HTML5. But it doesn't 'suck', because apparently a lot of people use it. Now, if that is because there is no better alternative, then all it will take IS the better alternative to kill Flash.
Apple just comes across like an arrogant by not supporting Flash.

And if the stuff is something worthwhile, people will buy it and support it and the company will do well.

While it doesn't make sense, if they don't want to sell gas then they don't have to. Remember once upon a time using a 'mouse' was a stupid idea and look how many companies are to this day battling it out in court claiming they invented it.

Well, I dropped my iPhone and broke it. Since I didn't get insurance when I bought it, (grrrrr) I would have to buy a new one. Since I was sick of getting screwed up service due to the overload on AT&T I decided to shop around . So I'm getting a Samsung Intercept on Sprint for like $40 less a month for the same plan. We'll see what happens. Frick loyalty, I'm just going for the best deal.

Of course, nobody is going to force them to sell gas.
But they would be stupid not to do so. The only reason Apple gets away with not supporting Flash is because of their past success, and because of all the fanbois.

If they can get away with it, and then sell their own product instead, that to me is better business than selling the same old gas. Sure its risky, but if it pans out they stand to make a lot more $$$.
