Good to see the Mariners play well.
Can't wait till Bedard and Lee come back. With the way Fister and Smith and Vargas are pitching they could have the best rotation in baseball if all goes well.

So Edison Volquez gets 50 games for trying to start a family. How original.

The Athletics pretty much have a guaranteed win with Vazquez taking the mound for the Bombers tonight.

The day after the other possible #5 starter took a no-hitter to the 7th inning.
Good stuff from the Mariner pitchers.
Gonna be great when we get Lee back. And Bedard eventually.

MLB Team Revenues:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/201...nue/index.html
Top Five Revenue Teams
1. New York Yankees, $441 million
2. New York Mets, $268 million
3. Boston Red Sox, $266 million
4. Los Angeles Dodgers, $247 million
5. Chicago Cubs $246 million
Bottom Five Revenue Teams
30. Florida Marlins, $144 million
29. Pittsburgh Pirates, $145 million
28. Oakland Athletics, $155 million
27. Kansas City Royals, $155 million
26. Tampa Bay Rays, $156 million
But it doesn't matter how nice a ballpark they build in Pittsburgh, or how much they win in Oakland, or if they go to 3D baseball on television in Cincinnati. It doesn't matter how much they may tinker with revenue-sharing and luxury taxes... the Yankees' revenue stream is so enormous, it will give them a gigantic competitive advantage that should make them the favorites to win every... single... year. True, they won't win every single year because of baseball's quirks -- the fluctuations of age, the vagaries of a short series, the forcefulness of a hot starting pitcher, the volatile state of free agency, the overconfidence that winning breeds and so on. And there will be shifts in baseball; that's one great thing about the game. Nothing is permanent.
But it's good to look at the Forbes numbers just to comprehend what's really happening out there right now. Since the 1994-95 strike, the New York Yankees have won 57.9% of their games -- that's 94 wins per year. That's the most in baseball -- more even than the Atlanta Braves, who were so dominant for so long. The Yankees have won 100 games five times. They have made the playoffs every year but one. They have won the toughest division in baseball 11 of the 15 seasons. They have won five World Series and two other pennants, and it took a Boston miracle to beat them in the Championship Series in 2004. And still, you get the distinct impression from many Yankees fans that they feel -- they KNOW -- that the Yankees have underachieved.

I would like to see the payrolls for each of the teams right beside the revenues. The Yankees spend close to 50% on player salaries. While the bottom feeders only speed like 20% on player salaries. Then cry about not being able to compete.

You gotta admit that the Yankees run a good business. Even if they spend so much on salaries.

If you would actually read the article above (I know, clicking the link and reading it to be informed is difficult!) you would actually see that every team with the exception of the Marlins is "trying to win"
Here is a quote
Quote:
OK, well, last year, according to the Forbes numbers, the Yankees made $441 million in revenue* and spent about $416 million on baseball. That means they spent 94.4% of their revenue on baseball, a nice high percentage.
And the Royals? Well, they only made $155 million in revenue, and they spent about 146 million. That means they spent 94.3% of their revenue on baseball.
|
Or maybe this one
Quote:
Percentage of Revenue Spent on Payroll
• League average: 46.6%
• New York Yankees: 46.9%

Yankees starter Phil Hughes took a no hitter into the 8th inning vs the A's tonight. Eric Chavez broke up the no hitter with a ball hit back at Hughes.

National League, meet Roy Halladay. Complete game shutout, he's won his first 4 with the Phils and has an ERA of 0.82

With Cliff Lee still on the DL, the Phillies are sure looking smart on their move to switch aces.
Being a life long Expos fan, and now living in Nationals territory, I've been trying to be a Nationals fan, but its been tough so far. Not so this year, they've been a pretty exciting team to follow. And with Strasburg on the Horizon, they should be a fun team to watch for a few years. How long can they keep Strasburg in the minors? I can't think of another case in any sport where there is a guy in the minors who is unquestionably better than any pitcher on the big club, and may be better than anyone else period. What other starting pitcher can throw 98 mph fastballs throughout a game and top out at 103?

Is was a great game by Hughes, who had 10 SO as well. When the ball hit him in the arm and he looked up in the air and behind him I almost cried. The look on Posada's face when he scrambled to the mound to get the ball was very telling as well. All in all a great outing by the 5th pitcher in the rotation.
On the flip side, the Ace, CC Sabathia gave up a 3 run shot after walking 2 in the bottom of the first to give the A's a 3-0 lead just now.

As a New York Yankees fan I don't have to click on anything, because I know everything being a New York Yankees fan.

Pittsburgh gets beat by Milwaukee 20-0 today. The worst loss in the Pirates short history of only 124 years.
Man, what a god awful team they are. Ever since they lost Barry Bonds, they have been terrible every single year.

25+ wins?
I think so. His true potential and wizardry with a baseball is only beginning to show now.

That, and they lost $30 million last year, IIRC.
Lowest payroll in the league too, or pretty close to that.

King Felix pitches a complete game 1 run game for the win.
Mariners going on the road now. Should be interesting how they respond after starting the season 2-6 on the road.
Lee should be back by April 30.
Gonna be awesome once him and Bedard come back. 3 of the best pitches in baseball on the same rotation.
