What is this snow stuff you speak of??

Unseasonably cold down here as well, although no where near seeing freezing precipitation...more about flood watches and such.

Early snow/cold is certainly the one big thing i do not miss about living in Calgary.

If you're saying there's no need for winter tires today tell that to the guy I picked up from work this morning who was stranded because he couldn't get any traction at a light. Had to park his car and called me to pick him up.

Yesterday's drive was far more harrowing than I would have liked as we didn't get our winter tires on in time - and quite frankly driving during the first snow fall with snow tires is still an adventure with everyone else on the road.

Thankfully we didn't end up one of the stats yesterday, and today, we decided that the bus was a better decision. Hopefully we can get the car in for snow tires this weekend.

Wowzers, was I ever wrong in predicting today would be better. It took me 30 minutes to get out of my neighbourhood. 52nd street was a parking lot in both directions. Freaking warm up already.

Book now. According to the news, most places are backed up 4 days or more getting people in for that.

I left my house at 6:10 this morning. The first express bus comes by at 6:05 and every 10 minutes thereafter. I did not get on the bus until after 6:30. By the time I got down town and fired up my computer it was 8:15. My commute is usually 50-60 minutes by transit.

Yesterday, the bus was not late and the commute was maybe an extra 20 minutes.

It would be very picturesque outside and great if I hadn't needed to drive.

I didn't see any accidents but my entire drive was just gridlock.

Perhaps the conditions were different there than where I drove to work. While I did a little bit of tire-spinning this morning, it was much less than yesterday, and even yesterday, I was nowhere even close to becoming "stranded due to no traction."

The area of the city I live in is a little bit less hilly than other places in the city, but in all my years of driving, I never have been stuck without traction at a light.

Yesterday was much more slippery where I live. Today there was more snow accumulation (22X looked like it had never even been plowed once ), so traction was a bit better. Of course, it's hard to tell how slippery things are when you only move at 0.2 km/h.

I'm just glad that my four minute commute has turned only into an eight mInute commute and I haven't had an accident since I don't have my winters on yet. If my little SUV wasn't AWD I might have got stuck on the street outside my house. In Fairview it was still pretty slick on the side streets to have all seasons on. I'll be putting my X-Ice's on on Saturday. If my commute was any longer I would have put them on last night.

With winter driving returning, so are the crashes.

North of Airdrie on Hwy. 2 is experiencing whiteout conditions. Many accidents near Carstairs and Didsbury.

Sounds like there may be a 50+ car crash north of crossfield

Seriously, how the hell do 50 cars even get involved in one crash?

edit: And the map that accompanies this CFCN story is epic in just how little it actually tells you:
