Not entirely sure, the tech came and measured the levels. Said it was too high, so he put a filter to lower it down. That was before I got upgraded to extreme. Should I try to take it off now?

no, the filter is on there for a reason. the signal to your building is probably too strong, so a pad is put on your modem to dampen it down to acceptable levels. there could be other factors affecting your speeds, PM me if you want some more help

So, it is either shaw, or perhaps my RAID drives not keep up... I dont think it could be anything else.

Love the service, especially the 240 day retention and searching ability, and I was pretty sure it wasnt capped. I'll add more connections and see what happens.

I used easynews because they automatically joined files for you making it very easy, it was only $9.99 and most of my movies, documentaries I got thanks to them.
Not sure how they are these days, but worth checking out.

That used to be a huge advantage of Easynews. But, now I use Newsleecher combined with Giganews. Newsleecher has a great search function so you never need to download headers (so does Easynews), but also has a autorepair and autounrar option as well. All you need to do is smart select the files and Newsleecher does the rest. Similar to the joined files from Easynews, but Giganews has 240 day retention and unlimited download bandwidth.
Now, I just need to find out why my sustained transfer rate is 1.2 MB/s, instead of double that like it should be.

I received an email just about 1.5 weeks ago in my shaw webmail telling me this is going to happen.
It also said I will get an email to confirm it has upgraded. Did any of you guys/gals get an email if you are using Shaw Webmail?
Did speed tests and mine still stays around 11MB

I never got a e-mail from Shaw.
My speeds after the first week have dropped back down to about 6000 kb/s where I hit 10,000 before.
Also, I can't stream Youtube or Hulu anymore. It keeps jumping up and down. It's really frustrating.

Just a quick note on all the speed tests people have been doing with shaw... I talked to one of their guys a few weeks ago, and they said those online ones weren't great as the file is too small, so the powerboost screws up the results. The shaw was takes the powerboost into account... FYI.

Yeah, I don't think the Flash speed tests are very accurate. Better to use a java based speed test like this.

This.
15 Mbps should be equivalent to around just under 2 MB per second, and the 7.5 should be just under 1 MB per second in a long test (without speedboost).
1 megabyte (MB) per second = 8 megabits (mb or Mb) per second
I just wish Shaw offered faster uploads :/ makes updating the website sloowwww for big files

interesting, I just tried two speedtests (speedtest.net and speakeasy.net) and got two very different results. One had my download at 3004 and one at 6766. I assume the difference is that one server is in Seattle and the other Calgary (speakeasy didn't have many location selections)?

i can't run the dslreports speed test. Vista won't allow it for some reason. It says the add-on is disabled, but I can't find any disabled add=ons in the list when I go to manage add-ons?!?!??
