I dont think you can start a guy on 2 days rest (especially with the concerns regarding Becketts blisters), but it was 2001 where Schilling and Johnson pretty much did all the pitching for Arizona. I think Johnson came in for relief on no days rest to help out in game 7.
You start Dice-K, but you have Beckett and every starter except for Schilling sitting in the bullpen knowing they might get the call.
|
If i recall correctly, Johnson pitched game 5, Schilling game 6, and then Johnson started game 7 and schilling came in after 5 or something before turning it over to the pen.

b/c i think they want him to start on wednesday in colorado. so if beckett goes today, he'll be kept on a very small pitch count. nice to see the bats come alive -- especially the bottom of the line up. they needed that so bad. hopefully they left some hits for today. i was so glad to see jd do well. he needed a confidence booster. we just had some stuff finally go our way.

You've got it reversed but still a very good memory
Schilling started Games 1,4 and 7
Johnson started Games 2 and 6.
In Game 6, Arizona got out to a 12-0 lead or something so Johnson only pitched 5 innings and was available for relief in Game 7.
BTW, I wouldn't be surprised if Beckett came in for relief tonight if Dice_K gets in trouble. He came in for relief in Game 7 against the Cubs in 2003 after pitching a shutout in Game 5.

When did MLB go to the 2-3-2 playoff format? I thought only the NBA did that.

MLB has always been 2-3-2. I did a quick search and even some really old World Series from the 40s had a 3-4 format.
They don't like to travel in MLB

Interesting. For some reason I thought it was always the 2-2-1-1-1 format.
I think CC is available for the Indians too. Both teams will have all hands on deck for an ALCS Game 7.
Thanks for the confirmation on the Arizona pitching rotation Girly... unreal that those two started 5 games and got all 4 wins n the series.

The Indians look stunned in the first inning. A funny hope on Manny's easy grounder must be demoralizing.

2 Innings later...
Indians look flat. Sizemore is simply lost at the plate. Boston might win this easily without having to wear out Beckett further or their bullpen.

2 innings later (now the bottom of 5)...
Indians got life with a 4th inning double off the wall by Hafner which seemed to be the first kink in Dice-K's armor. It's 3-2 Sox, but the Indians are right there.
Sizemore got an RBI sac fly but still looks bad at the plate.
I think 5 innings is all theyll get from Dice-K - look for Okajima to come in for at least an inning or two. Maybe Beckett for an inning and if they still have a lead, get to Papelbon. Beckett might serve as the setup man so the Red Sox can avoid Gagne (maybe they'll leave him off of the World Series roster if they advance).
Double plays are killing the Sox (3 this game).

Wow, the Indians 3rd base coach is going to be a huge goat if they don't come back now. That's twice Lofton should have scored in this game.

It's a damn shame that this series will very likely be decided by the Indian's idiot third base coach. Loften would've been safe standing.

Another shame that the umps called Loften out at second too. I get that's it's a close play, but these guys are paid to do what they do. Baseball could use instant replay.

Baseball has enough slow times instant replay would make the game very ugly, unless it was like Football and you get 1 a game per team or something.

That's really what I had in mind.
I mean, in the time it takes for a manager to lose his mind and get tossed from the game there could easily be an instant replay.
And, yes, the wheels have really fallen off the Indians. I truly believe that the horrible call by the 3rd base coach took a ton of life out of the team. That play would've tied that game and the whole mindset of both teams would change drastically.

I'm surprised there wasn't really even an argument at all.
Lofton just ran off probably making his manager think it was obvious.

The Sox do it again! Remarkable! What a play by Crisp on the last out there, sacrifices his body to make the play.

Dustin Pedroia was huge in game 7!
Sox out score the Indians 30-5 in the last 3 games.
World Series baby!
