I'm not even going to get greedy. If Sillinger is off the table, any combination of 14, 20, Del Belluz, Marrelli etc. will do.

I don't believe Justin Carbonneau is related to Guy Carbonneau. It's just a coincidence and the fact the Habs like their francophone players. Although the francophone thing hasn't been a big deal lately.

I don't know why any team in the 4-7 range would rather have 16 and 17. That would be a tough trade to make unless they really aren't enthralled with the Hagens/Desnoyers types.

If NYI are forced to stand pat, I wonder how they view the players in the 16/17 range? Hopefully different from what the Flames need (maybe more inclined to take a Defenseman now?)

Love the Flames tie-in on this trade with 75% of the total assets exchanged having been Flames property at one point.

Waiting to see what the return for Andersson will be now. If Andersson is to be traded and Dobson also needed to get moved first, this deal and all of the Flames assets in it helped drive up the eventual return for Ras.

You are correct, they are not related.

It is an overpayment by the Habs imo, but teams that have built up assets can afford to do that to fulfill an area of need. Even if he doesn't revert to his previous form, it will help insulate the younger guys, and with a long-term deal, it doesn't need to be an immediate turn-around.

3 way deal, Flames get involved in the Hagens sweepstakes

Utah gets Anderson, Zary 17 OV
NYI gets 4OV
Flames get NYI 1st 2026 unprotected

Could be like a Markstrom, Ullmark situation. Only two goalies on the market, once one moved the second one did.

And then the Isles pick anywhere from 10-32 next year and we look terrible

Its not a blockbuster unless you get a Heineman.

Well the Islanders were supposed to draft 10th this year without some incredible draft lottery luck. Assuming they are the same next year (suspect they will be better) that would be one hell of a price to pay to move up 10 spots (barring some incredibly unlikely back to back years draft lottery luck). Their unprotected first could be 17th or 18th too, they are the epitome of a bubble team.

Isles are terrible, I doubt they give up their 1st.

I liked that Montreal was picking before the Flames as I didn’t they’d take Reschny but who knows now

They traded Dobson and Nelson? How are they getting better?

Flames traded Lindholm, Tanev, Hanifin and Markstrom and almost made the playoffs. You never know.
