Yeah- this clears the way for Oilers to give $11M to Bouchard and round out the bottom of their roster.

Hard not to come to the conclusion that Edmonton not only won this trade, but completely fleeced Vancouver. They got rid of a locker room cancer, an overpaid player, and a total jerk, and it cost them nothing. They got back a fourth round pick, no salary retained. Unbelievable.

Woah Woah Woah...

Let's get real here. This isn't for Bouchard, McDavid, Draisaitl.

It's for Frederic. Not everyday you have someone like that available to pay $3-$4 million. This is a start the car, we got Trent signed for 8 more years baby type of move!

What Kane brings on the ice doesn't offset the cap hit and off-ice issues.

Terrible move for Vancouver and does a direct rival a huge favor to boot.

More inept management from Allvin.

The Canucks can screw up all they like, just not at the hands of the Oilers. What a terrible trade.

The only positive for the Canucks is that there is only one year left on the contract so it won't handcuff them for too long. A younger Kane was at one point an effective player but an older Kane who lacks footspeed, takes undisciplined penalties, and is questionable in the locker room certainly is a choice.

I am sure that if the Canucks waited they would have been able to get an asset along with Kane

Motivated non bitchy Kane is still a solid asset

He’s exactly the type of player who thrives when he wants to - and he wants to get another big contract

He can either by flipped at the deadline for most likely more then the canucks paid as a rental if Van does poorly or helps them be good

Van only has to deal with him for 1 year (or until trade deadline ) and worse case you just tell him to F off and lose a mid pick
Let's start with saying this is valid. Yet, the thing with "politics" , especially in a organization that is trying to recover from a toxic era is:

- Kane gets in, and gains dressing room allies
- Kane gets in, and alienates others in the room.
- Short leash or not, at some point it could get pulled.
- He runs his mouth about how the Org is so unfair, especially seeing how he needs to have a good year.
- Room is fractured yet again because its fragile and predisposed to doing so.

Just call it a hunch, but for a club that is building is this risk worth it? You can say Kane was "better" in Edmonton but his last shift this year, playing for a winner, and playing well, he came unglued.

Just an armchair GM, but this is a dumb bet.

Doesn't even cover the Frederic raise and whatever increase they'll have to pay for an improvement on Skinner. After this move, they have $17M in cap space, without including Frederic's new contract since its not official yet. So take off $3.5M for $13.5M remaining.

They move Skinner to make room for a new #1 goalie. Gives them $2.6M back for $16.1M cap space but they need a 1G. Gibson's name has been brought up a lot, let's use his salary at 50% retained, or $3.2M. That's back down to $12.9M.

Perry and Bouchard will be re-signed. Does that eat up the rest of the cap? Probably close to, and leaves them with this....

Hyman - McDavid - Perry
Nuge - Draisatl - Arvidsson
Podkolzin - Frederic - Tomasek (29 years 0 NHL games)
Janmark - Henrique - Jones (2P in 26GP last season)
???

Ekholm - Bouchard
Nurse - Emberson
Kulak - Stecher
Walman

Gibson
Pickard

The Oilers are cooked next season and this attempt to open cap space is rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

This trade makes the Oilers worse, so I like it. They are going to fill the additional cap space with stupidity and Kane actually scored some big goals in the playoffs that won't be replaced.

Don't worry, the greasers will do something stupid with the cap space they just unexpectedly got.

But if I were CC i'd be calling and inquiring about Petterson on the cheap right now, 11 mil cap hit be damned

This exactly.

If argue it may not even let them get a different goalie. Bouchard, Perry is apparently wanting $2-$3 million...

This is about being able to actually keep. What they hay right now, minus Kane.
