This team needs to run the table instead of being right smack dab in the middle! That was an inpressive 3rd period comeback! Or, it maybe a way of Markstrom telling Conroy, "ya ain't tanking to 10th spot".
Sure but staying in Calgary was also an option. Why did he wait until the last hour to decide?
Because while he loved Calgary, he decided trying to be closer to family was more important.
Waiting until the last minute shows it was a tough decision. I've been in situations like that. If he truly was pissed at Markstrom like you want to think his decision would have been made long before.

well this is a what if situation. I truly believe if we made it to the Western Conference Final he would have chose Calgary over the crappy Blue Jackets!

Believe that if you want but I highly doubt it would have mattered.
Markstrom's numbers were terrible that series - but the Flames also gave the Oilers two most dangerous players way too much time and space.
Oilers shot 22.97% with McDavid and Draisaitl together on the ice in that series.
They shot 8.43% when they were off the ice.
Flames gave up 34(!) high danger chances, and 72 Scoring chances with those two on the ice in the 101 minutes they played together.
5.17 xGF per 60
42.7 SCF per 60
20.1 HDCF per 60
So yeah Markstrom was part of the problem still (9 HDGA, 6 MDGA, 2 LDGA with 29/97 on the ice) but coaching and the teams inability to counter the McDavid-Draisaitl line once they were united were the biggest issue. When 2 guys combine for 29 points in 5 games it's not on just the goalie.
TBH Sutter probably should wear more of the blame than Markstrom does. He failed to line match or figure out a solution to those 2.
Bleh. Markstrom still let in a lot of softies. He was sliding all over ice in that series. But whatever. The team was outmatched, the Oilers best players showed up and the Flames best players didn't.

Pinning that series loss on one roster player is revisionist. Lots of things went wrong. Tkachuk had a broken wrist, Tanev was out, Hanifin and Andersson were exposed as completely incapable of containing McDavid and Draisaitl.
Not really discussed much but losing Giordano to expansion team was killer, that would've provided much better matchups. He was still playing at a high level that year.

There is a youtube that shows all the goals against.
Markstrom was terrible in game 1 that they still won.
Then he has some soft moments in game 2-5, but the consistent theme is just that they were terrible in transition and gave up so many quality chances with passes through the royal road and in high danger areas (Game two specifically they get a 2-0 and 3-1 lead and just start bleeding high quality chances).
His confidence was shattered in that series for sure too - and it carried into the 22-23 season which was a big issue but the failures that series were 100% a whole team (and coaching) effort.
Not a lot needed to go right in that series but pretty much nothing did. Nobody can outluck the Oilers. A lottery ball is the only reason they aren't in Buffalo's shoes right now and working on 20 years with no playoffs.

I'm certainly not pinning that loss on him. I'm just saying he sucked. If a whole bunch of players sucked, then yeah, they sucked. And quite frankly if they sucked, some of them should be traded. Which is what happened.

Jacob Markstrom has a record of 1-4-0 in 5 games with a goals against average of 5.12 and a save percentage of .852 versus the Oilers in the playoffs in his career. (from statmuse.com)
Outside of the Dallas series, he was a terrible Flame and a total loser. That BOA playoff "performance" will forever taint his legacy in Calgary. Never thought we would have a worse playoff goalie than Trevor Kidd, but we did. His awful play in that series triggered the chain effect that let to the dismantling of the Gaudreau/Monahan/Tkachuk era Flames.
(yes I still have some unresolved anger towards him)
