Wolf gets an autographed Jonathan Quick stick after the game. Love seeing stuff like this happen in hockey.
Dustin should sign a stick and send it back to Jonathan. Lots of hilarious options to write back.

Probably, close for sure. The award goes to overachieving teams quite often, and that's exactly where this team is right now. I'm guessing the team comes back down to Earth eventually, but who knows anymore. They just keep playing well.

It's nothing to sneeze at. 500 is a lot in the NHL.

It's just strange because it feels like we've gotten very little of the player who registered the bulk of those.

Bahl was such an astute pickup by Conroy.

That is Wild pun intended. If they could ever figure out special teams……
The bottom of the roster is better than most teams, but the top of the roster is relatively weak. Most teams can rely on their top players, offensive and defensive, for special teams. This is where the Flames' lack of big stars shows the most. They no longer have a Gaudreau on the PP or a Tanev on the PK.

Natural Stat Trick 5v5 numbers:

Pospisil Kadri Kuzmenko xGF% 60.59
Sharangovich Backlund Coronato xGF% 68.55
Huberdeau Zary Coleman xGF% 48.63
Lomberg Kirkland Rooney xGF% 95.60!!! (with 85% possession)

Only 4 players under 50% tonight. Great showing by the team.

Flames in 2nd in the division just before the quarter mark. The Pacific division is incredibly tight and doing very well overall though. Only the Sharks have a Points percentage under .500 right now. The Central and Metropolitan each have 4 and the Atlantic has 3, which was a surprise to me as I thought the Pacific would be doing poorly for some reason.

The boys are humming right now and it's awesome to see. I'm really happy for Backlund especially.

He's probably up there but it's tough to argue against Scott Arniel and John Hynes right now.

Lock him in long term. He’s only 24. Huska really is the defenseman whisperer.

Fun weird fact

Weegar with 3 assists, but -1

He got the assist on the first goal but the game sheet shows 7 and 62 on the ice at the time of the goal

Must have been a pass and change

Edit: You can see him peel toward the bench after his pass in the NZ

An odd one for sure

Weegar is a real gem, rarely makes mistakes, so solid, keeps getting better. I always feel more relaxed when I see him on the ice.

I’ve liked all 4 of Bahl, Pachal, Miromanov and Bean. All 4 have been solid in both ends of the ice. Even if they aren’t making flashy plays, they are breaking up cycles in their zone really well.

That was the most promising Flames' team I've ever watched. This one is… interesting! Zary, Bahl, Coronato, Pospisil, Klapka, and Wolf, all in the same age group, with a dynamite AHL roster waiting in the wings and some very promising juniors.
they also had (in addition to as you say guys with promise who didn't pan out) Fleury, Ranheim, Matteau, Grimson etc 'in the system', plus some old boys in Hrdina and Makarov....it felt the taps would never run dry, then they did...

Awesome to watch Wolf anticipate the play and be there long before the shot is taken. I’m getting used to it, and I like it

As awesome as Wolf was, credit to the D - both Miro and Bahl had very notable stick plays to neutralize what looked like very good Rangers opps

I felt that way in 87 when they couldn't cut MacInnis fast enough in order to get guys like Norman Rochefort into the lineup and yet there was Mullen, Otto and Suter on team USA and the Badger coaching...I did come around but...

and no MacInnis was not still a defensive disaster by 87 as he was a few years earlier, he had been a +37 in 85-86 when they went to the finals and was 6th in Norris voting in 86-87 before that Canada Cup

Really liked Rooney’s game tonight. Not sure how it came accross on TV, but at the game I thought he really stood out on that 4th line (which was fantastic as a unit as well).
