I'm an automobile enthusiast from a kid owning vehicles from nearly every brand over the decades. As with most ICE diehards I was initially anti-EV but I'm also a tech nerd so I like to try the latest and greatest so I bought a Model 3 performance and I kind of liked it. Build quality wasn't great but it wasn't a deal breaker and for the year I owned it, it was problem free. If I had to buy an EV today I would probably (the Elon factor keeps it from being a no-brainer) get another because it's really, really good as a city commuter car.

He believes in protecting free speech as much as trump believes in saving America. I am surprised Musk can ever go outside or take his shirt off, as he has the thinnest skin in the world. Musk and trump have often said they love hearing the opinions and criticisms from others, but as soon as someone gives an opinion (or fact) they don't like, they ban them or lash out. They are two faced hypocrites.
Free speech isn't the ability to say whatever you want. Freedom of speech means the free and public expression of opinions without censor, interference, and restraint by the government. The key in this sentence is "by the government". At not point does free speech mean you can say and/or type anything you want, without censorship and/or consequences. It is flat out absurd to think otherwise.

Oh that guy's brain is like a bag of cats. Who knows what nonsense is passing through that vacant lot.
He probably wants an American Apartheid because it worked out so well for his family the last time around.

No they aren't. They can vary from person to person, but they are absolutely informed by anatomy and biology.
Every driver's eyes are located on their head. Their head is located roughly centrally over the driver's seat, within a spectrum of heights. Their eyes may have different effective fields of focal and peripheral vision, but they are all the same general shape. Putting pertinent displays where they are adjacent to the important focus points on the road ahead does a better job of maintaining the throughput of visual signals about the environment needed by a driver.
There's a reason we don't put speedometers on the roof of a vehicle. Our anatomy dictates that is a bad idea.
Also of note, it is legal to drive with one eye. Someone who only has vision in their right eye suffers pretty badly with these centre screen setups.

Musk is having a deranged, ketamine-driven mental breakdown at Trump's campaign losing steam, Xitter getting banned in Brazil due to his moist chudness, and X getting hugely devalued and costing his investors to lose hundreds of millions of dollars each.
Fill his pockets a bit more with a new Tesla.

Longer than that. Where North America is concerned, GM started putting heads-up displays (albeit optional extras) in the Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme as early as 1988, followed by the Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. Nissan started the same year with the S13 Silvia.
HUDs did not start off as being a feature solely for high-end / rich people cars. Enthusiast and mid-tier premium cars is probably more accurate. Adjusted for inflation, a 1991 Grand Prix GTP with a HUD would be under $50k CAD in today's money ($24.6k in 1991).

Comment on Musk. Last week I was on a trip that took me through Newport, Rhode Island and area. When there, I went to a mansion that is now a tourist stop that was the “summer cottage” for the Vanderbilts back in the mid 1800’s. This place was ####ing ridiculous. Giant mansion with every piece shipped from exotic locations. Built in 2 years. 40 servants worked there, gigantic grounds. Extreme opulence. I was blown away, and so I thought just how much did these idiots have?
Turns out, in present day terms, Musk has 120 TIMES THE WEALTH of the Vanderbilts. That is absolutely insane and in no way, in no country and on no planet should anyone, ever, have amassed this amount of wealth personally. The power this idiot yields is astonishing.
If anything, Musk and how he operates should really be a catalyst to fundamental societal change. I’m wondering when it will come. I don’t think anyone ever thinks about the numbers.
There needs to be a cap on wealth. Musk could give every American $600 and still have $40 billion…

You taking care of your vehicle is different than those who don't know a damn thing about vehicles. My opinion on used BEV is to treat them in a way like an ICE that might be "raced to ####" until you've discovered otherwise via inspection or while owning etc.
Me personally, I don't mind Tesla. I consider them better than the bad comments about them, but not as good as the good comments about them. I wouldn't have an issue being in one and it's not my first choice. Overall though, I am not paying a premium to be in one but I'll jump on a damn good deal for one that is long range + AWD.
This is an extension to my thought process for ICE vs BEV/PHEV for my next vehicle in a few years. I'm nearly certain my next vehicle is a BEV/PHEV, but if an opportunity to hop into a good condition luxury car for ridiculously below market happens, I'd totally consider it and delay getting a BEV/PHEV.
And before it gets tossed out there, yes I've driven Teslas. Last time I rented a model Y, I inexplicably had horrible back/lumbar pain that would begin after sitting in them for over an hour. Luckily my destination was less than 2 hours away, so only around half of those segments of the drives had pain. The short drives in between that were 45 mins or less wasn't an issue. Another time, I borrowed my buddy's 3 for a week so I am decently versed in what to consider if having one for daily commute usage.
I don't mind the discussions about how BEVs are part of the future or BEVs are part of the solution for the future. However, the conversations I've had with some (not all) Tesla owners was just too much. One of these destroyed the friendship and it ended because I guess I've driven Teslas and my opinion wasn't "It's the best thing ever the grace asphalt" or something.
I mean, he doesn't talk to me and invite me to things anymore and I don't really care at all. Funny thing is that he doesn't even drive a Tesla anymore. His wife still has one, but he ended up in an ICE or hybrid vehicle again after getting bored of the Tesla in less than a year. This disagreement wasn't even an ICE vs BEV/PHEV disagreement. He was legit upset I wasn't a converted Tesla/Elon fanboy or something and upset I had legit criticisms on my real world experiences with Teslas. He did the same to about half a dozen people in the friend group. Oh well. I think most of us were also happy to be done with the debate where he'd pretty tanked and then hopping in his Tesla because he has the "highest tier self driving package possible" and "he's sober up enough, even if he might not pass a breathalyzer". Just... exhausting.

That's the most pathetic thing I've ever heard, and yet 100% believable. Tesla/Elon is a religion to some of these idiots.

My brother is one. It's...uh...tough to manage sometimes. "you'd have to be an absolute utter moron to buy a Civic at this point" was one thing he liked to say a few years ago when he thought his robo Tesla would be making him bank by now.

Well, this is fun:
Elon Musk says he 'can't wait' to work in Trump's White House
Quote:
"I can't wait. There is a lot of waste and needless regulation in government that needs to go," he wrote.
Trump has considered creating a commission of prominent business leaders to examine the government's budget and find programs to cut, the Post reported. The group, known as the "government efficiency commission," would aim to tamp down regulations and spending.
Though holding a spot on the yet unformed commission may pose conflicts of interest for Musk, he's previously expressed enthusiasm for the idea. After Trump said that he "certainly would" consider giving Musk a job in his White House, the Tesla founder tweeted an AI-generated photo of himself at a podium emblazoned with the acronym D.O.G.E.: Department of Government Efficiency.
