Was referring to hockey vs working at a gas station or Canadian tire because they tend to be the dumber kids.

Might be a good route with the AHL with some prospects, go NCAA for the year you can't play in the AHL, and get a year towards a degree.

Would this option work if the kid already signed an ELC?

Could Parekh for example go NCAA next year even though he’s already signed?

More than anything, for the first time, we get a direct viewing on how a dominant OHL player will fare in the NCAA - Big10 is a decently strong conference.

Outside of that, I think this is a great decision for Mews - very excited to see him progress.
Don't want to get ahead of ourselves, but given the minutes he'll probably be given, could easily see a ppg+ season from him.

I'd take a 1/3 chance that he's a star defenseman and/or a 1st pairing dman!

Better odds than most (all) third round picks 10 months later.

I think he has big time potential as well. That's why I was always against putting him in any trade.

Teams crave RHS defenceman, and we have 2 with star potential. Still don't know what Bruzs is yet either.

With Andersson, Hanley likely moved in the next year or 2 that will open up spots for these guys to take.

See, I rank the three as 1. Parekh, 2. Brzu and 3. Mews. Brzu had a rough start this year but imo has turned it on as the season went progressed.

I would be interested in seeing if Mews + one of our 1sts can be used to get a high pick this year.

Remember when we couldn't find a right shot defenseman to save our lives?

I remember when Tre gave up a 1st and two 2nds for a middling RHS D on a nice contract...

Points for Mews is the least of the concern. It's whether or not he can round out his game and fitness to be able to become a top 4 regular. This is his best option and would have been one that greatly benefitted Parekh had he been able to do so.

Hopefully it helps several of the Flames other great prospects moving forward.

Great info. Thanks.

It seems in some cases, CHL players switching to college actually could lengthen the time a team has their rights assuming Mews is a freshman this coming Fall?

Wonder if CBA tries to harmonize CHL and NCAA to just a fixed number of control years post draft regardless of route.
