However it was slightly different than the one on Markstrom. There was a rebound that went to Gaudreau right before, significantly reducing the time Oettinger(sp) had to set up.

Also, Oettinger was the one player holding Dallas in that series, so he gets a pass on being less than perfect. A goals timing affects a lot, including the player's confidence. If he was letting such goals in the beginning of games in that series it wouldn't go to 7 games IMO.
Markstrom held his own that series

When Johnny scored goals like that we'd all say what a great play it was.

That was a nice play.
You're probably right but why doesn't a 6 foot 6 goalie stand up on plays like this? It seems Markstrom is forever on his knees making him smaller than Wolfe

Woohoo. Nice goal by Sharangovich.

That logic only applies in small one offs. Over the course of time the save % is VERY important.

You will not find a team leading the league in save % and not making the playoffs.

If a goalie plays 60 games with 30 shots vs on avg. the difference between a .880 and .920 is 72 goals. More than a goal a game!
The odds are also higher the team with the lower save % is playing from behind more often.

Govi just lit the lamp and I love it.

He did, and I'm not trying to take a dump on Markstrom here. I mentioned that Markstrom is the MVP so far this season on numerous occasions. Bad goal, move on. Markstrom has been quite good at making stops on HD chances, the low danger chance sv% is still below league average.

PS: great goal. Things are starting to really click for that line.

Zary just made Benn look pretty silly in that puck battle.

That’s why save % can be a flawed stat. There’s no accounting for shot quality. A goalie can play better in a 5-4 game than a shutout.

At moment Markstrom’s save % is better than Oettinger’s tonight. It’s not indicative of much.
