I recall him saying he was excited we got a star player who was French and reached out to him during the summer saying he was excited to learn from him.

I also imagine Huberdeau and Pelletier have a bond as Quebecois just like we see with the Swedes. They are the only two Francophones. Apparently Hubie texted Pelletier right after the trade.

Pretty easy call to sit Pelletier beside Huberdeau in the room, as an obvious mentor. And it works well as a positive distraction for Hubey too.
Then if it does click, see if they can take it out on the ice.
But I don't suspect Sutter puts the same weight on relationships that I do.

I was in that space. It was honestly mostly people making jokes about Sutter not liking players under 6 foot. There was some productive conversation and even someone defending Darryl having Looch on the 2nd line. And there was a Finnish Leafs fan who talked a little about Rönni and said he plays a bit like Lucic. Overall, it wasn’t the worst Twitter space I’ve ever been in

Perhaps not defined as dressing room location, but I would not assume that.
Sutter has always valued vets who lead - for better or worse. His refrain the last year has been good people, good teammate, good competitor.
I’d guess having Huberdeau supporting Pelletier is an expectation. I can imagine Sutter leaving it to the room to sort that out, not his job. Which is maybe part of what you mean.

All I will say is this team needs scoring. Continuing to throw out the same 12 forwards every game and praying something changes doesn't strike me as providing the best chance to get that scoring.

Chicago and St. Louis aint that far away from each other geographically, right? If they have time to practice, I hope Pelletier and Duehr get to participate and maybe get a shot in the lineup against Blues. Mangi could use a game or two in the press box

I wouldn't touch anyone on that third line, they're getting it done.
Don't confuse a frustrating lack of finish with not playing well.
Since the xmas break all three forwards are between 67-68%, the next closest is 59%

The fancy stats aren't winning hockey games and scoring goals. And evidence last night Mangiapane shooting it into the chest of goalie Everytime.
Either they start producing goals or its time for him to sit.

Yeah actually they are.
When a team has a line that generally plays in the opposition's end 2/3 to 3/4 of the night they do more than just score goals.
They wear down the opposition, draw penalties, create momentum, tire out the opposing goaltender.
I'd love it if Mangiapane found his finish too, but you don't scratch a player on a line that is dominating the opposition.

Don't touch third line. They are elite amongst third lines. The top 2 lines need to be a more consistent scoring threat.
Flames also need a Stone replacement. Guy needs to be pushed down as #7D

6-2-2 in their last 10.
They are winning games.
One loss last night doesn't change that.

Have to think they give Pelletier a chance.
May not be tonight though.
|
I don't expect him to play the very first game after his call up, without any acclimation or at least a decent number of rushes with linemates. There are 3 games this week and Sutter would have to go out of his way big time to not get him into at least 2 of these games.
I do expect him to get a shot with decent players since we are talking about a first round draft pick and guy who has dominated at every level he has played at.
Now is as good of a time as ever to bump Pelletier up the ladder....hopefully with a crack at it tomorrow on the Kadri line.

Oh I agree that their line has been killing it. I just think he's squeezing the stick too tight rn, he obviously is frustrated which results in weird decisions at times and he always shoots straight to the goalies chest. I'm not saying to bench him because he is terrible, imo he just needs to have a night off. But then again I am not a hockey coach and I would have no clue how to coach a team, so

At some point it would be good to see Pelletier get time with the Backlund line, as that seems like a great place for a young player to start. Though they get tough minutes, Backlund seems to be a great line-name for guys getting their start.
But I don't think you break that line up right now.
Would be great of Eat Bread would go on a heater by starting to convert chances.

Sorry but I was talking Mangiapane specifically. He got paid to score and anyone who plays with Backlund usually is benefiting from the high corsi numbers.
If he doesn't waste opportunities by shooting it into the chest of the goalie Everytime and actually does something we might have won last night.
I don't think the goalie is getting tired by having a puck hit him in the chest and not having to move much.
Backlund is perfect for a guy like Jakub.
