Give it a rest. If the young guys can't beat out the fourth line guys then it is on them.
That misses every bit of nuance in NHL line-ups, lol. First and foremost is offensive players 90% of the time aren't needing to "beat out" 3rd and 4th line players to get a call up and prove their worth.
Further down the line is that the NHL is littered with prospects and players that would excel if a team gave them rope, but it is not an exact science or the best 700 best players would be in NHL spots, which is not the case.
Give it a rest. If the young guys can't beat out the fourth line guys then it is on them.
I think with the way Lucic - Rooney - Ritchie line has been playing over the last several games the young guys do have them beat. It took some of the young guys some time to find their legs in the AHL, but now they’re playing well. I usually say it comes down to consistency when comparing veterans to prospects, but when your vets on the 4th line start playing consistently bad then it’s time for some new blood and energy.
Another example is a guy like Ruzicka, who looked terrible during camp, he was bad on the wing, and not great at centre. Over the last couple of games he has shown he could keep up and contribute on the 1st line.
With Tanev back, I think we could send a D back and call up one of the Wrangler forwards.
Really not a fan of this comment by Sutter. So completely unnecessary and could just add another layer to Huberdeau's struggle to transition to a new team. I hope I'm wrong and it has an positive affect.
As for the game, they played hard. PK was excellent. They seemed in the fight from start to finish. Still too many stupid turnovers. Credit to Markstrom also, was very good.

This has all the hallmarks of a trap game. Two teams going in opposite directions. Hopefully the Jets don’t feel fat and sassy. That would have a bad ending. GJG!!!

Feels like forever since we last played

I have an impending sense of doom about this trip.
An injured snot flame horse and back to back against a pretender.
If the Jets find a way to win both games I think people around the league will take notice.
Quote:
Yup this two game set has a bad feel. Don’t want to play Helle B2B and Flames are way overdue.
Lived in Calgary back in the very early 90’s and loved those Chinook’s.
Quote:
Further to the trap game, Jets in recent years have come out sluggish after a few days off. Lets hope that is not part of the Bowness system and is a thing of the past.
Quote:
The battle of Atlanta !
I sure hope we stomp them.

I hate games like these against desperate teams on massive losing streaks.

Wins - from thy game we have been well accounted for,
With special teams dress’d in unusual trim
Hath put a spirit of death and dismember,
Heavy serial victories – we dance and leap with them.
Yet nor the egg of wisdom nor the sweet smell
Of successful schemes in odour and in hue
Could give HF Jets perceptible swagger story’d tell,
From Calgary’s proud lap will they pluck passes where they grew;
Our Jets doth adapt; the opposition’s faces drain of blood,
We will to praise all in the repeat’d hosings;
The current wins are but sweet, the memory bouy’d in good,
Grip Flames in steely tongs, a fate not of their choosing.
Yes it seems our winter may be blunted and this game not plunder’d,
Give the D-corps strength to crush this game, and rise above eight hundred.

Flames get so many lucky bounces against us these last few years. They always seem to get a goal or two off a random tip or redirection in our games.

I have a bad feeling about this game.
Markstrom is playing like Helle, and Helle is playing like Markstrom!
Quote:
Some say, Markstrom's windmill is still turning because of all the hot air coming from the press box.

Markstrom remembered how to goalie all of a sudden.
Quote:
It could be 2 3 1 Jets right now. Markstrom on cocaine tonight
Quote:
Lol #### you markstrom

#### off Markstrom.
(But wtf that was incredible)

Markstrom is still sour from that last good goal. Shoulders Dubois after he gets a cheap shot by another player.

markstrom is no angel.

We look like the team that has lost seven in a row. Geez.

is it too much to ask that we can go 30 seconds without a whistle? No flow to this game.

Games like this where I miss Buff - would love to have him handling Lucic.

I don't feel confident Jets can score on the PP against Calgary, they are incredibly aggressive on their PK and Jets are having a tough time getting zone entries

Jets not giving much effort and Calgary’s crew on the play-by-play is making this a tough watch.

Aw man. Good game guys. No idea what the hell the Jets were doing in that third period but very entertaining up until then.
Time to focus on the Bombers for tomorrow.

Disappointing 3rd from us. We were on such a good run of good hockey...
Bee’s Knees
Quote:
Markstrom is a dirty pos for extending his knee to take out Dubois. The guy wants to show emotion and intimidation like Mike Smith but can't handle his beef.
Quote:
Things I've observed in this second period:
1) Jets had a chance for a shorthanded breakaway. Lucic in hot pursuit. The Jets player pushed the puck too far ahead of himself and basically lost any opportunity of getting a shot off. Crowd chants "Looooch".
2) Markstrom complains to the ref about God knows what.
3) Kadri teaching his new teammates the fine art of the flop. Lindholm barely touched but acted like he stepped on a landmine and got his foot blown off.
Quote:
I hate Markstrom
Quote:
Have to give the Flames players some credit. Limited Winnipeg to 4 shots in the third. Can’t leave the game in Markstroms hands.
Quote:
Yeah, they locked it down hard. I want us to play like that. The Jets could barely make 2 passes together lol. They looked atrocious. You have to play with confidence to do that. No hesitation.., I will give CGY credit there. They are very aggressive for the most part, that is why they always outshoot teams. Not all quality shots, but they usually do.
They also pressure the hell out of the puck carriers on the PK.
Also, when the Jets are coming into the Flames zone. They step up very high on them to prevent clean entries. Flames just do not have much skill in their lineup, but they play their "system" fairly well.
Edmonton and Vegas are the only teams in the Pacific without a welfare loser point
Woody has to figure out a better system and Manson. Our guys just put out a red carpet on opposition zone entries.
Quote:
Well that's one way to f*** up an important PP

I'm hoping that Kadri and Dube can create space for Huberdeau to do his thing and the other two lines can take on whoever. I've still got a ton of faith in Huberdeau and am excited for when he catches fire.
Great to see Ruzicka take advantage of this opportunity. It's amazing what confidence will do for a player. He looks much faster and more skilled than he did a few weeks ago.

Dube is a black hole...he does not deserve top line play.

Huberdeau just got 80 million bucks. He’ll be fine. You can’t take a contract like that and expect your coach will go easy on you. He’s being paid to put up 100 points.

He's on pace to putting up numbers that would tie his second best season outcome despite being strictly in a #3C role and he's come out hot to start the year. Would giving him the C take away the production we're seeing now or give him a boost to be even better?
Either way, he's playing like he wants it. Huge assist on the GWG shorthanded.

I have my team to cheer for, despite what fanin80 believes whats best for the league. After losing them once and not having them for 14 years, who could ask for anything more?
