Ruzicka just showed why he should be a regular. He was scratched for a month.

Not sure if it's really on them, actually. What has Rooney done to avoid being placed on waivers? Seriously.

Rooney can go play in the AHL or the ECHL. Plug and a waste of cap space. He belongs in the soft eastern conference..

Edit: #### him

That misses every bit of nuance in NHL line-ups, lol. First and foremost is offensive players 90% of the time aren't needing to "beat out" 3rd and 4th line players to get a call up and prove their worth.

Further down the line is that the NHL is littered with prospects and players that would excel if a team gave them rope, but it is not an exact science or the best 700 best players would be in NHL spots, which is not the case.

Ruzicka just showed what he can do when he plays well, which unfortunately has been his problem. Hopefully something to build upon.

I think with the way Lucic - Rooney - Ritchie line has been playing over the last several games the young guys do have them beat. It took some of the young guys some time to find their legs in the AHL, but now they’re playing well. I usually say it comes down to consistency when comparing veterans to prospects, but when your vets on the 4th line start playing consistently bad then it’s time for some new blood and energy.

Another example is a guy like Ruzicka, who looked terrible during camp, he was bad on the wing, and not great at centre. Over the last couple of games he has shown he could keep up and contribute on the 1st line.

With Tanev back, I think we could send a D back and call up one of the Wrangler forwards.

As for the game, they played hard. PK was excellent. They seemed in the fight from start to finish. Still too many stupid turnovers. Credit to Markstrom also, was very good.

Go fork myself for saying Ruzicka has been underwhelming? Pretty obvious, no?

Nobody really blew it out of the water, including the "fourth line guys", so nobody should be given a lot of leash.

The pro-Rooney wave on this site during the exhibition season might be the worst case of preseason brain I have ever witnessed. Mind boggling.

That being said, when Huberdeau returns, I don't see a spot for Phillips yet. Personally, I'd like to see:

Huberdeau Kadri Dube
Ruzicka Lindholm Toffoli
Mangiapane Backlund Coleman
Lucic Lewis Ritchie

I'm hoping that Kadri and Dube can create space for Huberdeau to do his thing and the other two lines can take on whoever. I've still got a ton of faith in Huberdeau and am excited for when he catches fire.

Great to see Ruzicka take advantage of this opportunity. It's amazing what confidence will do for a player. He looks much faster and more skilled than he did a few weeks ago.

Dube is a black hole...he does not deserve top line play.

Truly, it's not meant to be a compliment to him. The other lines are working and I'd like to see Huberdeau and Kadri get a run together.

You could switch Mang and Dube for optics sake, but I love Mang with Backlund and Coleman.

Huberdeau just got 80 million bucks. He’ll be fine. You can’t take a contract like that and expect your coach will go easy on you. He’s being paid to put up 100 points.

I really want to give Backlund the C.

He's on pace to putting up numbers that would tie his second best season outcome despite being strictly in a #3C role and he's come out hot to start the year. Would giving him the C take away the production we're seeing now or give him a boost to be even better?

Either way, he's playing like he wants it. Huge assist on the GWG shorthanded.

I have my team to cheer for, despite what fanin80 believes whats best for the league. After losing them once and not having them for 14 years, who could ask for anything more?
