Stone has played 81 games for the Flames in the last 5 seasons, basically one full season.

7 goals, 18 assists. Plus another 3 goals, 3 assists in 14 playoff games. Any d-man with those stats for a full season would have teams all over them. I dunno why this guy struggles to find a contract every year, bad agent?

I'm guessing other teams would be interested in him if he was interested in other teams...but he's not. His family is in Calgary and he would rather stay in Calgary. He prioritizes lifestyle over money, good for him I say!

Love what Stone has brought in small doses over the past couple of years, but he’s in the pressbox when Kylington is back. He won’t be getting a multi year deal at over 2 million per season.

Quite funny to look at the NHL page for the Flames' next game and to see Stone listed there as the team's leader in goals, assists, and points. I hope someone is keeping a screenshot for him.

Who knows how the rest of the season goes, but I wish him well for it. He seems like a solid team guy. Would love it if he can have a breakout season.

Not to mention, in his last 22 games (going back to the start of last season) he has five goals and 14 points (19 goal, 52 point pace) so he's seemingly getting even better. Or it's a small sample size haha.

My day dream for Stone is that he plays all season, is .5 ppg and is in consideration for All-Star game. Now that would be a story line.

I have to give props to Toffoli for doing a fly by screen on Stone's goal. I don't think I would stand in the way of one of Stone's passes.

I guess it is just natural to suggest that if someone in an occupation is not strong at their primary responsibility, why not make use of their stronger attributes?

Using him in a different spot on the power play is hardly making him into a forward. Is using 4 forwards and 1 dman on the power play turning a forward into a defensemen?

It has happened but it’s so so so rare for a F or a D to be successful playing a different position. These guys have been playing their positions their entire lives. Most of the time other positions are completely foreign and they’d be totally lost.

It’s silly to suggest it.

Edit: referring to putting a D to F or vice versa in 5v5 play. Power play is a different story.

I think the main reason is just because there are 12 forward positions and typically you have dead weight on them, and there are only six defense positions.

Stone's play a relief with the Kylington situation. It also offers options when the latter is ready to return.

I would say Stone's main issue is defending the rush tbh. Too many easy entries that should have been prevented at the blueline
