These games are glorified scrimmages. There is very little to glean from them.

It's not really any different than how veterans float through the preseason and the best players are often rookies/young guys trying to earn their spot.

Another stinkfest. Did Pelletier play in this game. Klapka and Duehr were very noticeable. Both had good games. Not one of Wolfs better games.Klapka could be a very intriguing prospect going forward. Have enjoyed watching him play and for a big guy he can skate pretty good.

couple of the best prospects also aren't there

Ciona is flying a bit under the radar.... I'd like to see what does in his next junior season.

Klapka has a great name for a guy that will probably be in a fair amount of fights.

I missed the game due to work. Anyone care to give me their impressions on Xavier Bourgault?

Thanks!

Bourgault has some really good tools. His hands are impressive and he carries the puck with a lot of confidence. Didn't notice him a ton compared to Holloway, but it was usually positive like a good puck touch or battle effort.

I’m out in the Okanagan for the tournament and some golf and fishing.

Game 1 - Wolf and Poirier looked good. Not much from the forwards.

Game 2 - Duerr is the only guy who looked good. Wolf and Pelletier were poor. Pelletier in particular does not look NHL ready. Lost every battle. Doesn’t seem to care.

Overall so far - Flames have looked fast. Duerr, Schwindt, and Zary look the most engaged and poised. They don’t always make the perfect play but they all have a presence. Klapka and Poirier have moments of greatness but also make a lot of mistakes. Petterson is a shifty skilled forward who shows flashes of Gaudreau-like playmaking. The defence as a whole struggle to move the puck.

This is a fun little tournament in a cool setting. Would be nice if the Flames actually show up for the last game on Monday. Otherwise I’ll feel a little ripped off.

Bourgault was part of the Oiler's top line, who ran all over us. He has great speed and skill, and has moves to get around opposing D-men. When in the O-zone, he finds the sweet spots. Seems to be a very good playmaker, and a has a really good release and a hard shot. Didn't notice him much in the d-zone, but it's been said that he needs a bit of work in this area. He looked good with Holloway, who might have been the fastest skater out there tonight.

All much to the chagrin of us Flames fans.

Watching the highlights on youtube now; you really can't escape Bob Stauffer's insanely wet mouth

Yeah you don't want to read into that too much.

Does point out the difference in the flow of a hockey team if you have a blueline that can transition the puck though.

The Flames haven't.

It shows

Everyone saying these games mean nothing. That’s true, but the players should be out there thinking that way. I’d anything, they should be putting on a show and trying to get noticed.

Exactly. It’s not like they can just sit back and wait for the season to start.

Means nothing? Apparently the Oilers and Nucks kids don’t agree. Maybe we place to much value on the Flames prospects. Hopefully a few of these kids will follow in Mangiapane’s footsteps

Hockey isn’t a sprint, it’s a marathon.

Jeez, do people really take these games super seriously? This is a warm up for the prospects, getting their legs moving for when they go back to junior or are pushing for an NHL/AHL spot.

I think you have to be cautious of jumping to any conclusions based on the outcome of what essentially is scrimmage games. I didn't see the first game but watched the entire game last night and outside of Klapka there weren't any standout players that look like they are ready to challenge for a position on the team. Not the end of the world but a bit of a disappointment that Pelltier hasn't been able to differentiate himself from the pack. He already had the slimmest of margins to make the Flames roster and based on his results here it appears he needs another full season in the AHL at the very least. Not sure if it was based off a scouting report but the Oilers beat Wolf on the blocker side a few times.

Weirdest part of the broadcast for me was how complementary Stauffer was of the Flames prospects. If you didn't know any better you would have thought it was a Flames based broadcast.
