Is 'lived experience' a new way to present anecdotal evidence?

There will be fights. The red lot will have some problems.

Liquor and rival fanbases always results in fights.

Worse.

It's basically an Orwellian nonsense term.

It's an attempt to avoid a discussion about objective truth.

No one here is representing these folk in an actual case. If there's an investigation or proceedings that prove this was all made up, fair enough. All I'm saying is 9 times out of 10 if I hear a Person of Colour single themselves out, as having been the victim of some racial offense, I'm going to believe it.

What you believe is far less interesting than what you know (or don't know).

I'm surprised I haven't seen this on the news yet.

As for judgement, I'll wait until there are more details made publicly available.

Which is precisely the issue being discussed.

People see an accusation on social media, assume '9 times out of 10' it's real, and start condemning, and attacking, the accused, without any basis on which to do so.

I have no idea what to think about this incident.

I really hope the gentleman that was hurt can enjoy their next outing and not have such an exciting time to be a Flames fan ruined.

As for the noise, the defendant said that someone fell into them and then they fell into the victim. As a STH who has experienced exactly that, more than once, that sounds like a plausible explanation to me.
This exact thing happened to me in 2004 game 6 in OT when Gelinas scored against Detroit, I got pushed (by my Dad, haha), lost my balance and ended up two rows down, toppled into and pushed the guy in the row below and took him down another row with me. One of the most vivid memories in my life, haha.

Possible scenario?

Couple behind fellow mention/comment during game that it’s difficult to see around his turban? Game winner comes, people topple during celebration leading into the incident.

Pure speculation obviously but I could see it as a plausible scenario.

My aunt (60? at the time) was pushed into the next row by a fan in the 2004 run.

I grabbed the guy quickly but his face told me everything I needed to know ... accident.

So it happens. I don't quite get it, the guy literally pushed her, but we all moved on.

I won't get into the rest. Hope the guy is ok and he goes to the game he was given tickets to. We're all Calgary fans, be better people.

After reading the daily hive article, it sounds nothing like the incident described on instagram.

This should serve as an example of the danger of social media and hopefully the poster will be held accountable.

Yeah it’s pretty crazy when a victim and an alleged perpetrator have conflicting stories. That never happens ever.

I am going off of what the police are saying, nowhere in the article do they quote the accused or even give their perspective.

The lack of other witnesses coming forward to corroborate this as a hate motivated crime speaks volumes as well.

This was not a hate crime.

The two concerns I have with their story is that the police statement to the DailyHive seems to suggest the man clearly said he was pushed from behind and that it was an accident, where as the Instagram story doesn't mention that.

Also, local news stations love social media stories like this one that get everyone riled up, but despite the family tagging two major local news companies, neither have decided to run a story on it.

^ The article was published yesterday where CPS asked for any witnesses to contact them

They are taking it seriously and investigating

The CPS not doing their investigation in real time in public does not ‘speak volumes’. That’s silly

I hope you’re right, that there was no hate crime. But nobody knows at this point

I do hope there are no further similar incidents during this upcoming series (and, you know, generally thereafter).
