So far. But also the place was pretty loud at the end of the game. It would be hard to hear a racial gesture, if it happened.
This news is also spammed all over twitter, as if they are trying to shame the Flames organization into doing something.
That's what it looks like to me.
"I don't ever want to go to another game" (picture of the victim in Flames jersey).
Team offers free tickets, victim accepts.
As for the noise, the defendant said that someone fell into them and then they fell into the victim. As a STH who has experienced exactly that, more than once, that sounds like a plausible explanation to me.

It could also be an emotional response to a situation where a family member got hurt.

Impressed by most of the posters in this thread having sober logical judgement on this and wanting to wait for more information before passing judgement.
Good video that's been posted at times before on the forum about what jumping to conclusions without all the information can lead to. As well as the damage public shaming can do.

I went to the game with my friend and his dad and the same thing happened. When Johnny scored some dude came flying down from a few rows up and hammered him from behind. We were in the front row of the section so my friends dad got knocked into the railing. He was pretty banged up so I had to give him a ride home.
He is Caucasian so it was definitely not racism in this case, but drunk people standing up fast tend to have poor balance and stupid things can happen.
I had a guy fall on my and my son at a game. I think it was a Battle of Alberta. My son would have been in grade 1. We sat down near the end of the row as fans were piling out after the game. He was a little slow to go down the stairs so I decided we'd sit and wait until almost everyone in our section was gone. Suddenly I got hit. Then wet. Some drunk guy tripped on the stairs, allegedly fell/tumbled four rows and hit us. Mostly me. He was a small-ish guy, was losing momentum and I'm somewhat large. I basically stopped him when he hit me from behind. He spilled his beer. His buddies were more focused on how he almost saved his beer until he hit those people. Somebody else checked on us to see if we were okay, but the drunk party was concerned about the beer. We were fine, but I worried about getting pulled over on the way home because I reeked of beer after that!

Haha one time I saw Harvey go down a whole flight of stairs. Didn't hit anyone though.
So to this point, the only evidence we have that it was racially motivated is that the defendant is a visible minority - is that correct?
And inference from the addition about the young relative. Huge speculation on my part but I bet it was an accidental shove but the couple reacted badly (and racially) when they asked them for information in case the old dude was hurt.
So, Gaudreau scores a huge overtime goal and someone decides to celebrate by committing a hate crime in a huge public space? And further they are not immediately arrested?
I don’t buy it. Sorry. I just don’t. I absolutely believe this man was pushed and injured. I don’t believe for a second it was a hate crime. It just doesn’t make any sort of logical sense.
I hope I don’t come across and insensitive, as I absolutely believe racism and hate crimes happen. I just find this particular case hard to believe.

There has been nothing provided other than a 'young relative' saying it was '1000% racially motivated'. Okay, based on what? Nothing provided.
How old is this young person? Is it a child?
You are speculating on nothing. Well, almost nothing.
The post adding that is significant IMO. They had a “suspicion” when they first posted. Then they talked to this witness and it turned into “1000%”. Something happened to make them write that.
Pretty simple. If it was a racist attack those people should be charged with a hate crime in addition to battery or whatever is warranted. And obviously named from CSEC events for life.
But, there has to be an appropriate investigation first. Luckily there should be tons of witnesses who can confirm what happened.
Pretty aggressive to go public like that if you aren't 100% sure it was racially motivated, so I tend to believe it happened.
What does a non-hate version of assault look like?
