Some teams no matter who is playing just seem to have your number and the Canadiens are that for the Flames.
The 4th line had some good shifts, but it would be nice to have a touch more skill down there to convert one of those chances. No idea how Ritchie fires that one out of play as opposed to putting it in the net.
A lot of guys really were not sharp as Lindholm and Tkachuck both were of really off. Really outside of Mangiapane and the fourth line everyone else looked off for this one. Markstrom started out okay, but after the Suziki goal, he struggled after that.
Gives the coach lots of things that he can use to correct some of these habits. There will be two fiery teams going at it in Denver on Saturday.

The team that played better won, it was that simple. Good teams lose to bad teams sometimes, it happens. As long as it doesn't become a habit, I'm not worried

Calgary could certainly be faulted for looking ahead of the Habs to the next two games with Colorado and Edmonton.

What a dumb, sloppy, #### game to watch. By both teams. Looked like junior hockey out there.
Can't win em all, huge game tomorrow night. Can't wait.

You are correct. Technically. But the MGA was and is designed to give power to municipalities to govern locally. It isn't in place to be change on the whims of the provincial government without input and consideration of the needs of the municipalities. We provide every day essential services to residents that the Provincial government does not, or will not, manage.
It's a BS move. And it's not right.
Edit: It is also incredibly hypocritical. The AB government several times throughout the pandemic downloaded legislation and health orders to the municipalities so they could skirt criticism and deflect responsibility. And now they want to do the opposite here.

In 2020 Kenney specifically said masking should be the decision of local government. Now he says that local governments should have that power at all.

How did this turn into the Covid thread? Some people are sick of hearing about Covid. Don't we have a number of dedicated Covid threads elsewhere on this very forum?

Someone posted in the wrong thread and subsequently deleted the post, hopefully we're not down the rabbit hole now

I'm as guilty as anyone of falling into the tar pit of discussing it off topic. So as an easily distracted person I'd agree to a complete rejection of COVID arguments anywhere in the Flames Forum - there are OT threads galore.
Of course just noting rule changes at arenas, etc - fine.

Only saw the first. Seems like a game that could have gone either way, and Montreal is on heater.

Powerplay Quarterback

I thought that was both Monohan's and Looch's worst game of the season by far. Monohan's lack of a basic hockey skill set was embarrassing to watch and poor Looch looked like he was 70 years old out there. Both were turnover machines and defensive liabilities. I think both would be well served with a few games off. This is the time of year that bodies start to hurt and you're frayed mentally. Rest them now and get them ready for prime time.

It seems to me he would be better in strictly a 4th line role and no powerplay time.

No offence to the guy but his 8 goals were for the most part pretty suspect ... a lot of iffy goaltending.
Given how bad Neal was, my bar for Lucic is just good five on five defense, and helping whatever lower six line he's on get out of trouble. Lately though, even that has been waning for sure.
And honestly with Toffoli in town I would get him off the powerplay too, that's a good point.
Toffoli to unit one, Monahan to unit two, Lucic to five on five only.

A lot of this was likely going on. An OT loss could be a best case scenario though. Sutter will kick their asses and have them firing on all cylinders. If they'd blown out the Habs, the Flames may have been smelling their own farts.

The deployment should be situational. All of Toffoli, Monahan, and Lucic bring very different things. I'd like to see them being deployed as needed. If the other team is being physical, that leans more towards Lucic's abilities.
The Flames really need to get back to their game of relentless and varied attack. 4 lines rolling and hitting the other team constantly. Last night, only the 4th line looked like they were playing that role.

Yes. People joke about his 5 hole goals, but in truth they were just a combo of luck, goaltending and a hot streak where he was snapping the puck well.
Goals aren't a big issue however. I need him to pass better and not fumble the puck like he did last night. He was really bad. Plus he hasn't crunched anyone lately. he was better on the bottom line. I thought he'd do well with Toffoli and Monahan since they are all familiar with each other but I was wrong.
I still see Toffoli and Monahan starting to gel though.

OT loss to a non-rival.
Flames could sure use some sharpening.
