It was really impressive seeing the team come out in the third and just take it to the Hawks who really looked like they were going to atick around and be a thorn. It took them a while to score, but Chicago barely had a chance in the third after looking real dangerous through 2. Just delightful

One of the best 5v5 teams versus one of the worst. Calgary is 1st in the league in 5v5 goals allowed and have posted shutouts in 7 of their games this season. The Blackhawks are 31st in 5v5 goals for on the season.
Quote:
Haven't paid much attention to Flames, but if they've only given up 18 goals 5-on-5 in 19 games, that's mindboggling. Hawks will be fortunate if they can somehow muster 2.
Quote:
Watching the Canadian feed. Interesting, they talking about Flames player's great conditioning has made the difference this season. And giving a lot of that credit to Darryl Sutter and his no-nonsense approach.... play the team game or ....
Quote:
Please don't get smoked. Prove my gut wrong.
Flames don't take a game off with Sutter at the helm. It's a great test. At least Fleury is in nets.
Quote:
I'm amazed how Sutter can still connect to younger players.
Quote:
after a full offseason and training camp under the tutelidge of Daryl Sutter, the team is playing exceptional Team D.
Flower Power

That goaltending effort was disgusting.

Fleury has to be better than that

Jeepers, Lucic is a seriously large human.

He's a scary looking man.

Wow. They have been a defensive disaster tonite.

CLEAR THE FRICKIN’ ZONE.

Let’s pick this back up bud!

Murph has been ####ing atrocious with these mistakes all season. Like ffs figure it out, dude...

Murphy has been objectively terrible this season
fleury with a bad first goal
hardman, Johnson, khaira and Borgstrom are worthless
strome lazy again
Toews a non factor
Dach had his little fight but I’m just not seeing much from him
Seth Jones finally scores
Quote:
Seth Jones scores!
Quote:
Jones scores.
Quote:
When the pressure is on, Jones just crumbles. He is the king of missing passes by just a touch or fumbling pucks right on the line when they need to be kept in. Obviously he's gotta be held to a higher standard given his (future) salary and how much we gave up to get him.

That was ####ing stupid.

The ugliest shots are the ones going in

Man really ? f*** that stupid ass bounce. Luck goal. Pisses me off. Really wanted this game or at least one point.

Jones sucked tonite.

Not blaming Jones for the goal against, but not dumping it there when he gained the line was stupid.

LOL this is hilarious.

Yep. Flames show character and Hawks not.

For some reason, Gaudreau is eternally 20 in my mind. I can’t believe he is 28.

good grief.
you pull the goalie, don't fart around with the puck in the dzone and neutral zone and wear your team out.

Eastern US teams just laying down for the Flames all season. Heres the scorelinesl
Cgy 3 Det 0
C 5 NY 1
C 5 NJ 3
C 4 Pitt 0
C 4 Phi 0
C 6 NY 0
C 5 Buff 0
C 5 NYI 2
C 4 Bos 0
The above is 9 games and collective scoreline in these games is 41GF 6GA. These are not even competed games. These are teams getting run out of the building or laying down.
Its an average scoreline of 5 -1 in these tilts.
2 othrer results against East clubs exist. They were both OTL with Clg getting 1 point.
The same Flames team has lost all games against Canadian clubs that they have played (only 3) and all games against divisional clubs. 3.
But Eastern US clubs falling like bowling pins. What is it?
I wanted to group these results and highlight them. No Eastern US team has beaten the Flames. In 11 of these games Calgary has taken 20 pts.
Quote:
I noticed it as well and there is no other way to really describe it other than strange conicidence.
Their record against everyone else isn't great, but they steamroll the Eastern teams. I tried to theorize why, but it seems to just be random. Only the US markets as well, they lost to Montreal and Toronto.
Quote:
no one is getting up to play the Flames and snuck up on teams they haven't played in 2 years
Quote:
Come on Chicago. Give me some hope after that miserable Oilers performance
Quote:
Well at least if the hawks can get out of the third they’re all but guaranteed the win.
Quote:
Tkachuck with the sweet assist on Jones goal
Quote:
Flames are on pace for 30 shutouts this season
that and guys like Mangiapane on pace for scoring 65 goals is all I need to know there's no chance they keep this play up
Quote:
For all the talk about unsustainable play and advanced stats...
Why does no one mention how unsustainable Calgary's GA's are?
Based on shot metrics they are basically absurdly lucky. Part of that is coaching I suppose, but to put it this way; in 2011/12 and 2013/14 the kings had 15 and 24 goals against below expected over the course of 82 games... Calgary right now is at 16 goals against below expected in 19 games played, or on pace for 69 less goals against than expected.
To compare with the previous decade of hockey, lowest goals against vs expected goals against:
Basically they're either incredibly lucky or the best defensive squad in a LOOONG time.
Given how they have an eye popping PDO of 104.7, the 3rd most giveaways in the league (2nd most in defensive zone) and are 21st in number of shots blocked... I'm going to say they're just incredibly lucky.
Not exactly like you can compare their Defence / goaltending / center depth to those LA teams... I think they lose at all 3 positions.

Great effort and win after a long road trip. They’ve played a lot of hockey as of late so the mini break will be nice. Sutter has them firing on all cylinders. Fun start to the season for sure.
I'm still pissed at this comment from a coiler fan sunday night
"Sutters “amazing” system isn’t rocket science as I said. Need the personnel and goaltending. Dump and chase. Shoot from everywhere looking for tips and rebounds. Hold the blue line and quick transitions.
I’ll never compliment a Simple Simon system like that. I don’t GAF how many cups it wins.
It’s cave man hockey."
He won't compliment one of the best coaches yet he will compliment a one line team with the biggest whiner who dives and flops around like a fish.
Glad they lost tonight.

Loving Gaudreau's play in all three zones.
Was not sure I would ever say that.
These guys are good
Was thinking the exact same thing tonight. His play along the boards in his own end has been exceptional. I cannot recall one time this year where he has turned the puck over. The guy is playing at world class level right now.
